For most visitors to Auwald, the best area to stay is the village centre, particularly around Marktplatz.

The village centre is the heart of Auwald, a picturesque area characterised by traditional Bavarian architecture, cobblestone streets, and flower-decked balconies. Marktplatz, the main square, is a focal point with its historic fountain and surrounding cafes and shops. You'll find many of the village's popular restaurants and guesthouses here, making it very convenient for dining and exploring on foot.

Couples seeking a romantic and relaxing getaway will find the village centre ideal. It offers easy access to gentle riverside walks along the Auwaldbach, and many hotels provide balconies with lovely views of the surrounding hills. The evening atmosphere is peaceful, superb for enjoying a quiet dinner or a drink at a local tavern.

Families will also appreciate the convenience of staying in the village centre. There are several family-friendly eateries, and the short distances to local attractions like the Auwald Museum and the small adventure playground make it easy to manage with children.

The best time to visit Auwald largely depends on your preferred activities, but the summer months from June to August and the early autumn in September offer the most pleasant weather.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, the summer provides warm, sunny days, great for exploring the Bavarian Forest National Park. The trails are fully accessible, and the longer daylight hours mean more time for sightseeing. Families often find this period ideal as many local attractions and cable cars operate at full capacity, and there are often community events taking place.

Early autumn in September is another excellent option, particularly for couples seeking a more tranquil experience. The weather remains mild, and the landscape begins to show stunning autumnal colours, making for beautiful scenic drives and walks. There are fewer crowds than in peak summer, and you can still enjoy most outdoor activities before the colder weather sets in.

Winter, from December to February, is great for snow sports enthusiasts. Auwald transforms into a winter wonderland, with opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing in the surrounding mountains.
