The best area to stay in Areia is near the coast, particularly around Praia dos Pescadores (Fishermen's Beach) and the Old Town.

This area is the heart of Areia, offering a blend of historic charm and direct access to the sea. You'll find a pedestrian-friendly layout with cobbled streets, traditional white-washed buildings, and a good selection of restaurants and cafes. The Old Town is easily identified by its historic walls and the Arco da Vila, a grand archway entrance.

Couples looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway will find this area particularly appealing. The proximity to Praia dos Pescadores means leisurely strolls along the sand are always an option, and many accommodations offer lovely sea views. Evenings can be spent enjoying fresh seafood at a waterfront restaurant or exploring the quaint streets of the Old Town.

For families, staying close to the beach provides easy access to sand and sea activities, keeping younger travellers entertained. The area around Praia dos Pescadores often has more open spaces and a relaxed pace, making it convenient for buggies and little ones.

The best time to go to Areia is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October).

During these months, you'll experience pleasant weather ideal for exploring, with average temperatures ranging from 18°C to 25°C. The crowds are also thinner than in the peak summer months, meaning you can enjoy the beaches and local attractions with more space and a relaxed pace. This period offers a good balance of sunshine and comfortable conditions, superb for those who appreciate quality without the bustling summer rush.

For those who prefer hotter weather and don't mind more people, the summer months of June to August offer consistently high temperatures, often exceeding 30°C. This is the prime time for beach holidays and water sports, with the sea at its warmest. While it's the busiest period, it's also when all facilities and activities are in full swing, making it suitable for families and solo travellers looking for a lively holiday experience.
