Excellent reception and service.
Helpful in organizing a day trip out.
Dinner was wonderful, 4 courses with a lovely white wine.
Location was isolated but worth the effort.

This is a great hotel with luxury facilities. Although it is a bit out of town it has a shuttle bus which leaves on the hour and takes 5 minutes to get to or from the town centre.

Our GPS had difficulty finding the hotel as we had no street number. The hotel is somewhat out of town, but within walking distance of a number of cafés and restaurants on the main road. It is about half an hour walk, along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela trail, to the historical centre with the cathedral. Well worth the stroll into town. The hotel had a great restaurant and the two young waiters, Aitor and Santy were super friendly and highly efficient: I have never seen such quick...

A little far from town. Nothing around but the reception was great. The room was comfortable. It was good to get free parking outside the room. Breakfast was not great so we decided skip it the following day. Overall, except for the distance from town (€12 in taxi) a pleasant stay.

Firstly this hotel was hard to find because our GPS could not locate it, as the addresss on Hotels.com website was incorrect. It is not Avenida San Lazaro , but Rua San Lazaro and whilst in Santiago de Compostela's city limits, it is in San Lazaro, a suburb about 10 km out of Santiago's central historic area! This is not a problem in itself, but the address on the website needs to change. Secondly the website also describes the hotel as only 2 floors, and the picture of the room shows 2 beds...

Modern B&B just inside old city wall. However, a fridge is advertised as being in delux room which is not accurate a fridge is available in the basement breakfast area. Bathroom and shower is not for everybody, quite compact and open.
We had to leave early on our last day and breakfast was 0800-1030hrs, but staff provided a ‘picnic’ pack that morning for our departure. Much appreciated!

The hotel is perfectly located in the main square with a full view from our room. The staff were friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is also in close proximity to great restaurants.

The best area to stay in Amenal is the village centre, particularly around the Rúa de San Pedro.
This is the main hub of Amenal, offering convenience and direct access to essential services. You'll find a few small shops, a couple of local eateries, and the main Camino de Santiago route passing directly through. The Rúa de San Pedro is the central street, and accommodation options here provide easy access to everything the village offers.
For pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago, staying in the village centre is the most practical choice. It ensures you're right on the route, making for an easy start the next day without any detours.
When is the best time to go to Amenal?
The best time to go to Amenal is typically from late spring to early autumn, specifically from May to October, when the weather is most favourable for enjoying the region.
During these months, you'll experience pleasant temperatures, generally ranging from the high teens to mid-20s Celsius, with less rainfall than the winter months. This makes it ideal for walking the Camino de Santiago, which is a primary reason many travellers visit Amenal. The longer daylight hours also allow for more exploration and enjoyment of the Galician countryside.
Couples looking for a comfortable and scenic walking holiday will find May, June, September, and October particularly appealing. The paths are generally less crowded than in the peak summer months of July and August, and the weather is usually mild enough for walking without being overly hot. Many local eateries and services are fully operational during this period, ensuring a convenient and enjoyable experience.
For those who don't mind slightly warmer weather and enjoy a busier atmosphere, July and August are also good options. While these months see the most Camino pilgrims, Amenal itself remains a relatively quiet stopover.
