"Nice hotel and staff"

"On first arriving in our room, we immediately saw soda sprayed all over the wall behind the bed. We had to have someone come in and clean it as soon as we arrived. Our water closet (toilet room) reeked of urine. You could see streaks across the back of the toilet and walls. I mentioned it to the front desk and asked that it be cleaned very well but it was not cleaned well enough. The urine stench was present the entire stay. The floors in our room were also dirty. Walking around in sock feet, you could feel your socks sticking to the floor. The staff weren’t super helpful either. When we asked for transit information or directions, they were unable to provide any help. We toured Europe for a month and the Mercure was by far the dirtiest, least helpful and one of the most expensive places we stayed. Definitely not worth the money."

"This is an older hotel but it is well maintained and clean. Room size European standard. Bed comfortable. Staff very welcoming and helpful. It is located right across the street (2 minute walk) to Montparnasse train station. AC worked well as we were there during a heat wave. There is a café/bar next door and lots of other cafés on next block. Great place to stay if catching the train."

"The hotel was very beautiful and clean and the room was nice. Although the air conditioning was broken for our whole stay. There was no option to open the window and the room felt hotter than a sauna. After the room was cleaned it smelled like a foul oudour of sweat. We could not sleep the whole weekend because of the hot room. When we asked the staff for an in unit air conditioner they could not provide this, the hotel only offered 30 percent off our next stay. Overall it was not a good experience due to the air conditioning being off and staff offering no help. Besides this huge issue the hotel was nice overall."

"The hotel is conveniently situated to get metro or busses around the city. The room was nice and the sofa beds for the kids were a good size. There is a water cooler on each floor which was brilliant. I would have given it 5 stars except for: The big downside was the heat. We went in a heatwave and the air conditioning was broken so our room was an oven. It was uncomfortable to sit in and difficult to sleep in when we really needed an escape from the heat. The staff did provide a fan which helped but there was a suspiciously large cupboard of fans so I do wonder if it breaks often when it's hot."
