Pleasantly surprised super staff room was clean and comfortable view from sequoia was awesome. Sounds of rushing river lovely. Fireplace was broken but it was too warm to use but hotel staff came immediately to try and fix. The breakfast food and pizza were good.
Curry Village is like "Tent City", once you can find your way around its very easy. It's a fairly busy place so you get to talk to lots of people from around the world. It is well maintained, staff very friendly and helpful. Towels changed daily.
Check in is from 5pm if you arrive too late it's hard to find your way around to your tent if it gets dark. An earlier check in would be great.
Absolute perfect place to stay within Yosemite National Park. The convenience of being within the park and the Yosemite Valley floor with the travel time saved would make any level of lodging worthwhile. The Lodge at Yosemite Falls (where you could see the Falls just outside your room, and could be at the base of the falls within a short 10 minute stroll) was a mid-level hotel experience with mid-level pricing. The room was adequate though a little dated. We expected this, so we were pleased with our stay. Book your room well in advance because this place fills up quick.
The Wawona Hotel is an amazing historic structure for which the Park Service deserves much credit for maintaining so beautifully and in the spirit of its original builders in the 1870s. The broad verandah at the front of the hotel is filled with wicker chairs that creak pleasantly when sitting down with a glass of wine or iced tea. There are puzzles to put together by the fireplace in the evening. There are no televisions or telephones in the rooms, and wifi connectivity is minimal, which is a plus when you are a low-key low-tech sort of a person. My only caution is that the lighting in the room where we stayed was extremely dim...too dim to read a book in the evening. We had to take the shades off the bedside lamps in order to read in bed, and the general lighting in the room was provided by a single candle bulb. Lighting is something we don't usually pay much attention to...until it isn't there. So if you go to the Wawona and reading is important to you, then pack a reading lamp of your own and you will have a very satisfying and peaceful stay and at the same time a fine taste of old Sierra history.
It's a good hotel for the price. The hotel is a bit old but it has everything that you require. There are is a fridge and a microwave in the room. It is an excellent deal if you are planning to stay more than 2 people in a room because there is additional beds with no additional (or minimal) cost.
*For these trips, trip savings is at least equal to the cost of the flight or hotel if booked separately. Note: For trips including flights, you will be charged by the airline for the flight, but your savings on the trip will equal the cost of the flight.
