"A lovely little cabin by a lake at the back of the owner's house (great distance between. Felt secluded and peaceful. Was great waking up and feeding the chickens, guinea fowl, geese and ducks with a cup of tea looking at the lake. A great spot to unplug and relax. Fully equipped with a fridge/freezer, central heating, cooker, kettle etc. a few more utensils would be handy. Highly recommend a stay here and the owners, Amanda and Barry are friendly, helpful and good folk."

"Staff very friendly and helpful. Dining room staff couldn’t do enough for you and kept tables tidy and clean Breakfast -disappointed with the cooked selection. My husband is gluten free (which I put on the booking form) Bread and cornflakes available. He couldn’t have the hash browns or sausage as not GF and there was only scrambled egg available. No fried/boiled/poached eggs When my husband asked the chap filling up the cooked items, whet was gf he was quite abrupt. Will consider this when booking again Apart from this we had a nice stay, hotel handy to get into York centre."

"My room was in an annexe with no window, there was a skylight in the corner but the only way to open it and open and close the blind was to stand on a rickety chair. In the bathroom the grabrail by the bath was hanging off the wall so I would be very worried about grabbing it while getting in or out of the bath. Overall the furniture was not the best quality with wonky drawers not closing. The bed and bedding was very comfortable. Overall it was fine but u would probably choose a different hotel in York for my next work stay"

"This is a classic Poirot era hotel immediately adjacent to the York railroad station. Our room was quite small but well appointed. In retrospect, I think we would have been well advised to choose a larger (i.e.; much more expensive) room. There is (was?) ongoing road construction occurring right outside the hotel which went on until nearly midnight making sleep a questionable proposition. Our room was among those closest to the site of this work. Why weren't given a room farther from this I'm not sure. The HVAC in our room was new and modern with indecipherable operating instructions. It was a chilly day when we arrived and the A/C was doing its best to make it even cooler. Finally, someone came up to switch it to heat. The next morning, it had switched back to A/C! We had dinner and breakfast at Peachy's. Both were quite good. Especially at dinner, the service was exceptional. We enjoyed our stay at The Milner and, in spite of our complaints, would stay there again"

"The hotel is clean and the rooms do what they say. However, there is no atmosphere in the hotel The reception is impersonal and I booked 2 twin rooms through you and they said they didn't get advised of that due to me using a 3rd party?? We did get twin rooms in the end. Also the pillows are very hard and cheap. Plus the bar area only opens at 3PM?"

"It was all good except the wifi did not work at all during my stay and the staff has nothing to offer as a back up. Not really ok in this day and age. In all other respects all the staff were very friendly and helpful The hotel is clean and modern and the pool area is lovely. Maybe just think about replacing the outside signage with the name of the hotel on it and give that area a coat of paint. It’s tired and a bit scruffy in comparison to the interiors and it’s the first thing you see on arrival."
