Great coffee at the Chocolate Cafe in Lambton Quay and you get a free handmade chocolate.
Just outside the door
I found the easiest way was to walk. Great cafes with coffee and tasty treats, lots of variety in shops, including a large second-hand book shop that has an impressive New Zealandia book section, and with reasonable prices.
OK during the day, but rapidly deserted in the evening as the public servants who are its main business go home.
