Visit all four corners of the world without leaving the city in Canada’s largest animal park.

Toronto Zoo is home to over 450 species of animal from seven geographical regions. Extending across more than 280 hectares, this popular zoo is the biggest in Canada, attracting 1.3 million visitors every year. The natural habitats of Africa, the Americas, Australasia, Canada, Eurasia, Indomalaya and the Tundra have been painstakingly replicated to ensure that the animals are made to feel at home and to give visitors an authentic experience. From dry desert to tropical rainforest, the distinct environments have been recreated as faithfully as possible. The largest section of the zoo is the African Savannah, where you can watch huge elephants roam across the plains. The Rainforest Pavilion houses a huge colony of gorillas, the biggest indoor facility of its kind in the world. The Tundra Trek introduces you to the animals of the Arctic, including reindeer and wolves, and allows astonishing close-ups of polar bears swimming gracefully underwater from the specially designed viewing basement. The children will find plenty to keep them active in the hands-on displays of the Discovery Zone, the Kids Zoo and the rides of Splash Island. The Waterside Theatre has a daily programme of special events including the popular Wingin’ It bird show.Ten kilometres of trails help you to navigate the zoo, ensuring you won’t miss any of your favourites. During the summer you can hop on and off the Zoomobile, which runs between four passenger stops conveniently spaced around the site. Wheelchairs are available free of charge for visitors with mobility problems, and prams can be hired for the kids.Toronto Zoo is open every day except Christmas Day, with longer opening hours during the summer months. Last admission is one hour before closing. Full details of opening times and scheduled events such as feeding times are available on the official website, along with ticket prices and information on how to get to the zoo, located in Rouge Park in the district of Scarborough, around 30 minutes from the city centre.
