"Good location to the centre of town"
This hotel was fine to stay in for what we were after. We wanted to spend the night drinking cocktails and having dinner at Las Iguanas, without having to make much of a journey to our beds afterwards. The location of Great Expectations suited us perfectly for this. The room was nice, spacious and clean. Breakfast was good and filling. However, three negative comments...: 1. The hotel don't seem to provide any soap/shampoo/shower gel. The shampoo and shower gel are, I suppose, ok not to provide... but soap? Isn't that just a standard thing provided now? 2. The rooms are set above a busy pub, so don't expect the most quiet night's sleep! 3. Parking is a bit of a pain. We parked outside after 8pm which is free, but only until 8am. It meant having to wake up earlier just to top up the parking meter, which was a tad annoying.

"Perfect for what was wanted "
Needed someone to stay for night out in reading. For price, add in free parking couldn't complain. Literally 2 issues that really undermined the stay: one was the night porter took a long time to come and let us in, understandably he was probably busy but didn't find it that secure waiting there with a drunken loon pestering us (non intentional!) and the 2nd was that we got a completely different service to another couple at breakfast. They c in after us, yet got breakfast first and was waited on hand and foot "can I get you sauce, tea, toast" whereas we had our plates in front of us and left to own devices.... Disappointing especially as that was last memory we had of our stay

"Good central location."
The hotel was nice, very central and food was good. Only disappointing thing was that the room was very cold. I turned the radiator to it's highest to see if it would come on, but no joy.

"Luxurious interior, but lower level of service"
Caution: if you follow the hotel suggestion on their website to upgrade to junior suite in order to get a 4-poster bed and free-standing bath tub, you might just not get it but only a slightly larger standard room. Explanation of the hotel: not all junior suites have those promised features. If you like luxurious interior design including a chandelier with 86,000 beads, go for it. If you expect professional 5-star service, go somewhere else. Even if our experience was only due to low-season- or weekend temps.

"Convenient town centre hotel"
I was in Reading for an evening function so required only somewhere to stay overnight. I liked that key cards give access to the hotel in the small hours, and control the lifts at all times - this gives a feeling of security that random people can't wander in off the street. The room as a whole was well presented and pleasant. However, the en suite bathroom could have done with some simple checks: the liquid soap dispenser attached to the wall dispenses onto the surface next to the sink and leaves something of a mess - a clean mess, to be sure, but a mess. Also, the 3 for cleanliness is mostly because the toilet was unflushed on my arrival! The television and hot drink-making facilities were good and I made full use of them. After my evening function in the town, I had a good night's sleep before departing. I didn't stay for the breakfast - I understand this is an extra, chargeable item for the room I had - but the otherwise helpful leaflets provided in the room didn't say where one might go to actually get breakfast! Overall, a good trip but attention is needed to a couple of very small details that could make a big perceived improvement.
