"Perfect Service!"
This is one of the best hotels from a service standpoint that I've stayed at, and this coming from a very frequent, hotel snob. No surprise, it is a deluxe-class Japanese-run hotel which makes service (and cleanness) a top priority. Upon arriving after a long flight from Washington, DC, despite the early check-in time, I was accommodated with a great room with a view and an unbelievably helpful front desk person on directions and how to get around. The concierge was also great about how to navigate the tram system, although they do try to keep it simple and tell you of ways to just take one train and walk rather than transfer (which is what I eventually did). The property itself is a little off the beaten path, south of the main touristy areas. It is in a more neighborhood and office building area but still a short tram ride (#12 from about two blocks away, the #16 and #24 from about ten blocks away). Because the city has so much to offer, I did not get a chance to use any of the workout facilities or the restaurants. The lobby is very quiet and the restaurant closes pretty early (11 p.m. on a Sunday night) so if you're looking to catch a late drink, you should go to one of the neighborhood bars.

Pocket Guide: De Pijp, Amsterdam Business Hotels

The Pipe' (its derivation is a mystery) is a quiet residential suburb with a cosmopolitan bohemian air thanks to a large number of immigrants and the recent gentrification of the area by an arty crowd. Running through the centre, the daily Albert Cuyp Market is the largest in the city. De Pijp is also renowned for its restaurants which serve some of Amsterdam's best ethnic (Syrian, Moroccan, Surinamese, Turkish etc) food.
