"Clovelly "
What a lovely spot, overlooking the harbour in Clovelly. Peaceful, beautiful and full of history. The hotel has plenty of room in its bars and produces some lovely food and serves some lovely real drinks. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the village and walks around the area. They will also provide a Land Rover to take you to the start of the walks or the top of the village so you can walk back down to your lodgings perhaps stopping off at the New Inn for a drink on the way or one of the many tea houses for a cream tea.

"Ideal for visiting many National Trust sites"
Visiting at the beginning of July we found the weather was overcast damp/misty in the mornings but clearing by noon which made visiting the area pleasant .Our first impression on arriving was that the front/entrance of the Hotel looked tired & could be made to look more inviting, however the bar & restaurant were comfortable & overall we thought we had good value for the price paid .

"Simply perfect in every respect"
The best B & B we have ever stayed in by a very long way! From arriving in rain to find Nick there with an umbrella and offer of assistance with carrying bags as we got out of the car, to a lovely large room with en suite bathroom, to the superb food etc.; everything was just perfect. Our hosts, Nick and Mary couldn't do enough for us without being intrusive in any way e.g. giving us helpful suggestions as to where to eat, what was on locally, where we might like to sightsee. The house is in a lovely location and we were given a key so that we could use the lounge and our room as we wished during the day. Fresh home -made bread and jams on the table both mornings and after our 1st morning's coffees in the room we asked for the coffee sachets and milk to be replenished which we should have known Nick would do anyway but we found a flask of fresh milk there for us - so many nice little touches like that It really is difficult to find enough superlatives for the house and in particular, Nick and Mary's hospitality, thankyou so much, we felt we'd been welcomed and cared for by good friends, not just B & B owners!

"Just what I needed"
From the minute I arrived till the minute I left I was made to feel very welcome and as if no request would be too much. It was a spur of the moment booking and perhaps a happy coincidence that it suited me and my particular interests rather well. I loved the traditional interior of the bar, my room was clean, comfortable and sufficiently well appointed for my needs. I'm funny with food but found I was actually spoiled for choice for evening meals and actually appreciated being able to eat (and drink) in the same place I would sleep in. Yes I've had better / cheaper but then I've also paid a whole lot more for lesser quality. And thought the chips were great. Breakfast was more than adequate to fuel what was some very active days without the need to resort to snacks throughout the day I loved the family atmosphere where I felt more like a visiting relative than a paying guest.

"Not bad at all - but wouldn't pay top whack"
I needed a single room for a Saturday night, and £45 for an ensuite with breakfast was a very fair price. My room was fine, The old place is a bit shabby, but I've paid more for worse and the hotel is right next to Exeter St David's railway station. There was a nice big towel - and tea/coffee/biscuits - but if there was shower gel I couldn't find it. The cooked breakfast is superb. Not a gut-busting buffet, but a perfectly cooked English breakfast to set you up for the day. One little warning. Because it's relatively large, it does seem to get some big parties, sometimes the sort of groups who some hotels would turn away. On a previous visit, we have terrible memories of being kept awake by a bunch of rugby players, who were not only noisy, rude and moronic but also so sure of themselves - in that smug rugger chap sort of way - that even while keeping my family awake at 3am, they were still certain that we should be finding them rather charming and brilliant. This time, a crowd of geezers thundered down the corridor at about 2.30am, but, not being rugby players, they settled for a couple of minutes of banter and then packed it in. Well done fellas. Of course, noisy guests can upset you anywhere, but if you have a family or you really need your kip, it might be worth checking with the hotel if they can guarantee you a quiet room for weekend bookings. Overall though, so long as the price is right - and especially if you want a station hotel - I'd recommend it.
