What you can expect

Start your tour at the Verona Cathedral dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is one of the most important religious buildings in the city. The origins date back to as early as the 4th century. Here, you will see Romanesque architecture, a large double-arched facade in the exterior and frescos and precious art-works in its interior along with a 16th century bell tower which is about 75 metres high.

Get to see the oldest bridge in Verona known as the Ponte Pietra dating back to the Roman times. The bridge spans 92 metres over the breadth of the Adige river and has 5 arches.

Continue your tour by visiting the Basilica di Santa Anastasia located in the historic centre of Verona. It is the largest Church in Verona and is built using red marble in Gothic style. Here, you will also see the monument dedicated to Cortesia Serego which was made by the italian painter Vincenzo di Stefano da Verona.

As you walk through the square known as Piazza dei Signori, you will see the Palace of Cansignorio (also known as Palazzo Del Capitano). Here, you will see a 15th century courtyard and a portal by Michele Sanmicheli. The current building dates back to the 16th century. Here, you will also see the restored tower which was a part of the original palace building. Located nearby is another square known as Piazza delle Erbe where you will come across the ancient town hall, judges hall and Mazzanti Houses with frescoes. An ancient fountain built by Cansignorio della Scala in 1368 adds to the charm of this square.

Continue on to see the 84 metres tall tower with a spiral staircase known as Torre dei Lamberti. The construction of this tower dates back to the early 12th century. It was struck by lightning and was later reconstructed. Its large clock was added in the year 1779.

Finish your tour at the Verona Arena, a Roman Amphitheatre built during 30 A.D and survived an earthquake in 1117. The site is still used for large opera performances till date. You will also have a chance to see the largest segmental arch bridge of its time, the Ponte Scaligero. Finish your tour at the ancient Roman gate dating back to the 1st century known as Porta Borsari.

You may also choose to visit the Castel San Pietro located on the San Pietro hill by funicular. Here, you will see Romanesque Revival style architecture along with panoramic views of the city. The current building stands on the site of the old fortress which was destroyed in 1801.
