What you can expect

Choose an eco friendly and non invasive company to help you paddle through the serene waters of Keahou Bay at night, looking for the graceful motions of stunning manta rays as they glide beneath your Hawaiian Double Hull canoe. Team up with an experienced local guide for an evening excursion to uncover the majesty of these incredible creatures.

Head to the western side of the Big Island to meet up with an experienced local who knows the best places to find giant manta rays, which can grow up to 15 feet (5 m) wide. Before you set off, learn a bit about your traditional transport for the evening, a beautiful Hawawiian Double Hull Canoe styled after the same kinds used by Hawaiians for hundreds of years.

When you're ready, shove off from shore and paddle into the tranquil bay, using lights to draw in plankton that manta rays love to feed on. Watch as they arrive, cruising into the illuminated waters under the propulsion of their powerful wings.

Get closer looks as you don a snorkel and jump into the water to witness their incredible movements from just a few feet away. When the rays have had their fill of plankton, climb back aboard your canoe and paddle back to shore, looking for the stars as they begin to pop up in the night sky.
