Join us on a mesmerising day tour from Florence as we explore the enchanting towns of San Gimignano and Volterra, and the mysterious San Galgano Abbey.
Relax and relish the picturesque Tuscan countryside adorned with rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves.
Our adventure begins with a visit to San Gimignano, known as the “Medieval Manhattan” due to its impressive towers that dot the skyline. Take a leisurely walk through the cobblestone streets and soak in the enchanting atmosphere. Admire the ancient towers that once symbolised wealth and power for the city's noble families. Be sure to sample the famous local gelato, available in a variety of delectable flavours.
Next, we'll head to the captivating hilltop town of Volterra, steeped in Etruscan history and medieval charm. Perched high above the rolling Tuscan hills, this town boasts breathtaking panoramic views. Visit the imposing Palazzo dei Priori, the town's medieval fortress, and explore the Etruscan Museum, housing a remarkable collection of artefacts. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Volterra's artisan workshops and witness skilled craftsmen shaping and carving alabaster into beautiful creations. Immerse yourself in the mesmerising process of transforming raw stone into intricate works of art, and perhaps even take home a unique alabaster souvenir as a cherished memory of your time in Tuscany.
Our final destination takes us to the awe-inspiring Abbey of San Galgano, a short distance from Volterra. Presently, the San Galgano Abbey does not have a roof. The roof is the sky, and the grass is its floor. This lends itself to the mystical and wondrous feeling that surrounds the abbey. This enchanting site holds both historical and mythical significance, as it is famous for the legendary “Sword in the Stone,” evoking the timeless Arthurian tale of Excalibur. As we wander through the magnificent “open air” ruins of the Gothic abbey, we'll be transported back in time, marvelling at the architectural grandeur and spiritual aura that once graced this sacred place.
