Meeting/Redemption Point

    • Unnamed Road, Oía 847 02, Greece | All public buses and taxis from Fira and other villages arrive at our starting point in the public bus square. If you’ve arrived in Oia using your own transport, you’ll see the public bus square 100m in from the road you arrived on, on your left hand side. There’s a large blue dome on the horizon above it, navigate yourself in that direction and make sure you don’t go to the tourist bus parking below it to the right of the road! If you’re on foot, there’s a large blue-domed white church at the mid-point of the main street of Oia, to the right of the church (if you’re facing away from the sea) there are steps that will take you straight down to the bus square. Don’t forget, you can always ask - it’s a small village, and almost everyone speaks English!

What you can expect

Navigate the twists and turns of Oia’s cliff-top pathways and explore its hidden backroads with a long-time resident as your guide.

On this walking tour, you’ll see some of Santorini’s famous picture-postcard views and hear stories of both its recent past and its ancient history. Along the way, you’ll get to know how locals have lived on the island from its beginnings as a small settlement to a top tourist destination, and how volcanic eruptions and earthquakes have shaped the village’s character and community. You’ll discover why Santorinians live in cave houses, what life was like before tourism, why Oia was once called the Village of the Captains and what it’s like to live life on the edge!

Whether this is your first time in Santorini or you’re revisiting Oia and want to know more than the guidebooks can tell you, I’ll show you the undiscovered village behind the postcard.

Allow approximately an hour for this walk.
