The Hydro Majestic Hotel, Blue Mountains NSW
The grand dame of the Blue Mountains has been lovingly restored to her former glory, with a few very modern touches. The reopening of the Hydro Majestic marks the completion of stage one of a $35 million restoration, six years in the making. The first guests will stay from 23rd December but you can already take high tea.
Raffles Istanbul, Turkey
This brand new luxury hotel combines the opulence of traditional Turkish design with the trappings of a five star hotel. Each room has a balcony, many looking out over the Bosphorus. The 33,000 square foot Raffles Spa is certainly a show stopper –indoor and outdoor pools, seven treatment rooms, two spa suites, three traditional Turkish hammam and a sauna.
Scandic Palace Hotel, Copenhagen, Denmark
In a city that prides itself on cutting edge contemporary design, you don’t want to be staying in a cookie cutter hotel room. The Scandic Palace Hotel brings the past and present together, with the building dating back to 1910 but the bold interior design definitely comes from this century. Expect bright spots of colour, bold statement furniture and juliet balconies.
The Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel, Boston, USA
A hotel since 1912, this luxury property is fresh from a $20 million renovation. A great deal of work went into restoring the hotel to its former glory, from the furniture to the ceilings. Keep an eye out for the hotel’s resident canine ambassador, Catie Copley, who has a brand new bed, while the giant lions guarding the front entrance shine brightly again.
Bali Hai Resort, Broome, Western Australia
With some of the world’s most dramatic sunsets, and a beach as beautiful as Cable Beach, there’s no surprise Broome is a popular spot for couples. Bali Hai Resort should be your first stop for a romantic getaway. Set just back from the beach, with big bath tubs and four poster beds, you might just miss that sunset anyway.
