Melbourne for Teenagers
Are you travelling with a teen to Melbourne? The big kids know this cultural hub has some of Australia’s best art, culture and food but how do you communicate the joy of an Italian Masterpiece exhibition to your fifteen year old?
Yes, you don’t want them to miss out, but it won’t be fun for anyone if you end up with a teen tantrum on your hands.
Marriott Hotels has been clever, very clever, and started a concierge program. This City My Way is a website dedicated to things to do in Australia’s major cities for teens, written by teens.
Here’s 15 year old Isabelle Clarke’s suggestions for five different types of teenagers in Melbourne:
Melbourne has been voted one of the most liveable cities in the world and there’s no questioning how it got its title. With the abundance of activities and leisure opportunities we allow to our visitors, Melbourne is definitely a capital of fun for everyone, especially teens.
1. Budding artists
You’ll often hear people ranting on about Melbourne’s diverse street art – kids will find this cool too. If you’re interested in art, photography or have an artistic flare, the cobblestoned laneways filled top to bottom with fine art created by Melbourne’s own artists are a must see, and are perfect for your next Instagram post! Head down to Rankins Lane, Hosier Lane, Hardware Lane and Degraves Street to take a few shots of unique graffiti art.
2. Fitness Fanatics
The perfect road trip for the fitness junkies or those who are keen to get outdoors is the 40 minute drive out to the Dandenong Range’s 1000 Steps Kokada. Slip on your runners and take the steps fast (or slow!). Don’t forget to soak up the lovely atmosphere of the ranges. Your iPod isn’t even needed – the rainforest sounds are the perfect playlist for your workout. A picnic or Devonshire tea in the mountains is the well-deserved reward.
