Visit the relaxing village of Olga in Washington State’s San Juan Islands. Leave the mainland behind at Anacortes, Washington where ferries transport passengers and cars on a 30-minute trip to the islands. Boats dock at all four of the most inhabited islands in the archipelago: Lopez, San Juan, Shaw and Orcas.
Drive around the horseshoe-shaped island of Orcas from the ferry terminal to Olga, passing through Eastsound. If you leave your vehicle on the mainland, rent a car, ride a moped or bicycle or take a shuttle bus in warmer months. Constitution has an observation building resembling a 12th-century European watchtower. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the archipelago from the top.
Rent a sailboat in Olga to see the island from a different perspective. Tee off at the island’s 9-hole golf course near Eastsound. While you dine on local organic produce at one of the island’s restaurants, accompany your meal with a bottle of island-produced wine.
