South Island Kid friendly Holidays

I was definitely fooled by the reviews and photos that were posted on Expedia. Now I am not an objective authority on hotels or type of hotels that Sherwood is. My experiences I travelled with my family of 3, wife and an 11 year old, Queenstown is one of my favourite destinations. The good Restaurant and wait staff, wonderful, polite, professional, truly hospitable. The food was also good. Has a great courtyard with fireplaces scattered across including a few in the beer garden so great for families with toddlers and young kids. Now the rest: It appears that the glory days of the hotel are truly behind it, sold as a four star, is poorly managed and there isn’t any effort on the hotel’s part to make up for the shortcomings that we experienced. Rooms: Very old almost antique some vague art deco vibe which seems more of an effort to hide the reality, poorly lit and cold with only 2 quilts for 3 people Bathroom Need a small time diploma to operate the hot water mixer in the bathroom Room cleaning and services None was provided, we stayed for 3 nights My wife had periods and had some “accident” which leaked on to the sheet, my wife requested the room service to replace the bedsheet which was promised and delivered by dumping additional bed sheet and quilt which wasn’t provided the first night. Bed wasn’t made for all 3 days and we managed. Bathroom wasn’t cleaned for all this while either. Won’t come back to it, won’t recommend,suggest to avoid, backpackers standards!!

Amazing place and location

I was a bit disappointed that there were no shower caps or little extras that are usually readily available in hotels/motels. We also had a loud water pump going off every 30 seconds throughout our second night which was horrible. Instructions for the coffee machine would have come in handy too :( The beds were super comfortable though and the room was tidy and clean.

We absolutely loved this hotel! Staff was very friendly, facilities were clean and was in a great location to Queenstown city center.

Perfect trip!

Great location, a ferry runs to Queenstown every hour which is cheaper than an uber, several food options within the resort area which is convenient. The breakfast buffet was great value, wide range of options - highly recommend. During winter they included complimentary hot chocolate in the lobby. Lots of nice walking nearby and places to sit and relax, nice fireplace area outdoors near the main restaurant. Parking was mildly annoying, don’t use the underground carpark if you have a medium or big car as it is pretty tight to navigate. Just use the above ground / open gravel area to park and that’s also closer walking distance to the hotel entrance. If you arrive late you might struggle to find a parking spot, none are reserved. Pay by QR code for parking is easy, don’t have to pay for a full day either (first 3 hours free). Was fine after working that out. There was some miscommunication with some staff around buffet prices, but it got resolved promptly and they took care of everything. Do not use the service in the lobby for pre booking tours, as being a third party that makes it difficult to make changes or cancellations if you have to change plans due to weather etc. Not worth 5% discount for that hassle, plus they charge huge card fee so the savings aren’t worth it.

Studio was great and well equipped. Location is perfect for walking into Queenstown. All staff are friendly and welcoming
