About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town s community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing. Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley. Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark s Station. The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Beautiful location,cabin needs updated
Check in was delayed due to cabin not ready . We had to wait for over one hour for the cabin to be cleaned before we could check in. The staff was friendly and helpful. The cabin was nice with plenty of room. The cabin is in desperate need of a good deep cleaning, it was dirty. The furniture needs updating. The TV did not work. The maintenance people fixed the tv promptly after our call. This cabin has a lot of potential. It has been neglected for years. It could be a great cabin if it was fixed up. Beautiful location and very peaceful. We would not stay there again. I could not recommend anyone to stay there until they clean it up and fix it up. Thanks!
This cabin was a lovely and quiet place to relax after an exciting day at the Yosemite. It was clean and spacious and perfect for us and our teens. Loved the different paintings hanging from the walls.

Loved the location, very quiet.
Although this cabin is a 35-40 minute drive from Yosemite Valley we were happy to be there. We have visited Yosemite many times and were happy to explore Wawona and that part of the Park. The cabin was clean and comfortable, the property managers were very, very helpful and overall I would recommend.
Very comfortable house for a group of 4! A great location, super convenient to all things Yosemite! Quiet location, enjoyed the wildlife, which included a pair of coyotes passing by one evening! Thanks for a great visit, would love to come back and stay again!

Cabin in the woods
This was a nice cabin - well situated above the river and an easy walk to a swimming hole. It was well shaded during the day so stayed relatively cool. It was clean and a good place to launch a trip.
If you are looking for someplace flashy and new, this isn’t for you. But if you are looking for a comfortable, well equipped cabin in beautiful surroundings this is perfect. Located inside Yosemite made it a breeze to get around the park and it enabled us to avoid the long lines to get in.
We had a wonderful time!

Great cabin in yosemite
We had a wonderful stay. Just a few things - more hooks by the door for coats . And your guest book said there were scorpions in the lower floor so my kids got so scared . Maybe remove the guest book. Just a suggestion.
This cabin fit 2 parents and 3 young adults comfortably. It is inside the park so you don’t have to wait in the long lines to get into Yosemite. It is an hour from the valley. It is a beautiful drive and it was nice to be away from the crowds. The neighbors are so friendly and the woman at the general store was so warm and helpful. There are hikes in the area; Chilnualna and the swinging bridge were a short car ride. We were able to get groceries in Oakhurst which is 30 minutes away.
Make sure to get everything you need at the store as the cabin only supplied a small amount of toilet paper and garbage bags. No condiments.

We had a wonderful time at the Cabin during the end of March. The wood burning fire stove was a plus and really made the experience cozy. The cabin is in a more secluded part and really felt private. The deck was a nice place to stargaze at the end of the day as well. Thank you for a wonderful stay and vacation!
We booked this cabin because it was literally the last available cabin in Wawona during our travel dates. If you have this cabin on a hot summer day, know that it stays hot inside for most of the day on the 2nd floor (there's one floor fan for the living room and a ceiling fan in the bedroom). The well-stocked kitchen was a nice touch.
We stayed here during Covid and a bottle of hand sanitizer and cleaning spray were provided for us, but no hand soap. There's also a strict 10am check-out, and check-in begins no earlier than 4pm. We weren't able to check in until a little after 5pm because the cabin wasn't ready yet.
Overall, it was an okay experience.

Hot August Vacation
Clean. Spacious. Warm. Sturdy. The woods surrounding the property contained tons of decaying logs. The highway (41) leading to the property and surrounding the property were also depressing: miles of burnt forest and decaying wood. We felt like we were driving into a scene from the movie, "Deliverance". Indoors, everything was intact. Comfy beds, good fridge and stove. But... no A/C. We knew this, but it being in a Mountain area, we believed it wouldn't be hot. It was in the 100's. To enjoy our vacation, we stayed indoors until it became hot. Then, we closed windows and shutters to keep the heat out. We went to the river to cool down. Around 6 pm, we returned, and turned on the fan. Around 8 or 9 pm, it began to cool down, and we opened the windows. After that, it became cooler. I don't have a problem with this, except we paid $450.00 per nite for this accommodation. We could have flown to Hawaii and stayed in an air conditioned condo. No, I won't rent from these people again, I won't recommend it to anyone, and I won't recommend YNP because the forest is seriously compromised. Not the Yosemite I knew and enjoyed years ago. Yosemite is in decline!
We had a lot of family fun there during Thanksgiving week: quiet place in the forest, many places to go around, the cabin had all we needed including fireplace and firewood, gas station and convenience store nearby, and we were lucky to get lots of snow, which made the kids 100% happy. So very positive experience.
A functional, clean base with lovely wood burning stove and everything needed for your Yosemite family stay and lovely woods to explore right outside the cabin. Worked for us with an 8,5&3 year old. Fittings a little tired and nothing fancy but kitchen well equipped and everything you need for a base for an outdoorsy short break. It takes just under an hour to the Visitor Center in Yosemite in good weather and very light traffic but obviously very convenient for Wawona explorations and Mariposa Grove. Don’t misread the house number as two numbers instead of a number and a letter like us. We must have driven past it several times In the dark before realising our error! Overall a comfortable stay in a lovely secluded wooded location.
Great spot for us. Lovely location. Nothing fancy, but perfect for us. The only problem was check in... We arrived after hours (dark) and had much difficulty finding the cabin. Thankfully, one of the property managers met us and took us there. Maybe better signage for the properties... Thank you
Clean, very spacious and comfortable place away from crowds, truly has everything you need. Not great for a short stay as it is quite far from the valley, took us about 1 hour each day. If you have more time, like a week or so and can take a couple days off to explore the area around the house, than that works. House could benefit from some updates interior and exterior and some of the neighboring homes look run down.

Private cabin with nice view of the woods, not too far from Yosemite Valley
We enjoyed Cecil's Cabin for 4 nights in July (before the Ferguson Fire started). Although it was a 30 minute drive to Yosemite Valley, we also appreciated the peace and quiet that would not have been the case had we stayed in the Valley. The furnishings were pretty basic, but the cabin had most everything we needed. The view from the back deck was very restful, and except for one cabin in sight (with no occupant when we were there), all other cabins were far away. The downstairs bedroom was great for the teens, as it was a separate domain, along with half bath and door to the bottom part of the deck. If you want the feel of way out in the woods without really being that far from the main road (just a couple of minutes from Route 41), this is a very good choice.

Cecil's Cabin was wonderful!
The cabin was clean, comfortable and very relaxing. It was secluded in a beautiful wooded lot; saw deer right off the deck area! The cabin was stocked with everything we needed for cooking meals. Hiking trails nearby were incredible with the waterfalls to view. Wildflowers everywhere. Everyone was very friendly. We would definitely stay there again; I would recommend Cecil's Cabin to everyone!

Peaceful Getaway
Thank you for sharing this little peace of heaven. We enjoyed 3 fabulous days exploring Wawona and the Valley of Yosemite. Hiking to the swinging bridge and then sliding down the rocks and swimming in the river were a big hit. Junior Ranger badges were earned and the accomplishment of hiking to the top of Vernal Falls were all made possible by our wonderful retreat we called home. We covered the patio table with butcher paper and had our own outdoor pleine art studio.---wonderful paintings occurred. It's worth the effort to get to this special cabin.
