About this property

The Tansy House on Queen Street- Stylish Townhouse with Cinema Room & Courtyard Garden

  • Summary:

A traditional railway terrace with a stylish surprise inside, Tansy House combines York’s historic charm with freshly updated interiors. Spread across three floors, this welcoming home offers three bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen and dining space, your very own cellar cinema room and a private courtyard garden. With the city walls just outside, the station nearby and parking for one car included, it’s a lovely base for exploring York with family or friends.

    The Space:

Behind its traditional townhouse exterior, Tansy House has plenty of room to spend time together, from leisurely breakfasts around the dining table to cosy film nights downstairs.

The refreshed ground-floor kitchen and dining area features soft neutral tones, decorative wall panelling, cushioned bench seating and warm pendant lighting. Gather around the large dining table, with seating for eight, to enjoy a home-cooked meal, a takeaway or a chat over coffee. The kitchen is equipped with the essentials for your stay, including a large American-style fridge with an ice machine. A welcome hamper with tea, and coffee helps you settle in.

Upstairs, you’ll find two inviting bedrooms with king-size beds, each of which can be arranged as twins on request. One overlooks York’s historic city walls, while the other looks towards the garden. Crisp white hotel-quality bedding and secondary glazing help create a comfortable retreat after a day exploring the city.

The bathroom is also on this floor, with a large walk-in shower, fluffy white towels and toiletries.

Head down the original stone steps to discover the characterful cellar, where exposed brickwork adds a reminder of the house’s history. Here you’ll find the third double bedroom, with views of the courtyard, a separate toilet and your private cinema room.

Settle into the comfortable sofas, lower the ceiling-mounted screen and enjoy a favourite film together.

The sofa bed provides sleeping space for the seventh and eighth guests.

If you wish to use the sofa bed with a booking of 6 or less guests, there is an additional charge for the linen.

Outside, the private courtyard garden offers a spot for morning coffee or a quiet moment between sightseeing and dinner.

Parking for one car is included at the nearby NCP car park. With York station, Micklegate Bar and the city centre within easy reach, you can leave the car behind and explore on foot.

    Guest Access:

You can take advantage of the whole house, with your own private cinema in the cellar, the sun trap courtyard outside and 3 double bedrooms.

    Coded access/ self check-in

    The Neighborhood:

PARKING: We have a permit for one car at the NCP car park at the end of the road.

From the community spirit of one of the UK's top high streets (Bishy Road), beautiful river walks, just a gallop away from the Racecourse, the convenience of the train station, a stone's throw from Micklegate Bar which leads into the city centre- we believe Queen street has all you need to make the most of this incredible city- and so central you have views of the city wall!

    Getting Around:

With a parking space at the local NCP car park and a friendly taxi rank next door, the train and bus station across the bridge and a direct road out to the A64 which can lead to anywhere in the U.K. it’s easy to get here but once you have arrived the best way to see York is by foot and as you are just a minute away from getting on to the city walls you can get access to the best views and attractions the city has to offer!

    Other Things to Note:

The two upstairs bedrooms are double (king size) beds but on request can be made into twin beds.

Please note that the house is arranged over three floors, with stairs between levels, including the original stone steps to the cellar.

The sofa bed provides sleeping space for the seventh and eighth guests.

If you wish to use the sofa bed with a booking of 6 or less guests, there is an additional charge for the linen.
