Piper Cottage, Bilbrough, York 5m. Village.
Summary: Delightful two bedroomed cottage sleeping six people in a great village location. Off road parking. Underfloor heating, double glazing, gas central heating, wood burning stove. Our fabulous village pub, The Three Hares, is a two minute stroll.. Easy access to A64 (1 min), York, Leeds and Harrogate. One double bedroom and one twin bedroom - both with en-suite bathrooms. Sofa bed in the sitting room sleeps two additional guests. Downstairs cloakroom.
The Space: Piper Cottage sits on the site of the old stables and is named after Piper, one of our horses, who was born in June 2000 in what is now the kitchen of the cottage. The cottage is very light and airy but also very warm. The wood burning stove is a beautiful feature but not needed for warmth due to very efficient underfloor heating. The downstairs cloakroom means that additional guests using the sofa bed in the sitting room have their own facilities. The kitchen is fully fitted with an oven and hob, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher.
Dogs are very welcome by prior arrangement (£20 charge per stay) and there are four public footpaths in the village so plenty of walks in open countryside to be enjoyed.
Only 6 miles into central York and 10 mins by car from the Designer Outlet village. Five minutes from The Norman’s wedding venue, ten minutes from Woolas Barn and Hornington Manor wedding venues. Hen, Stag or other parties on request only. Our other property, The Carriage House, is across the courtyard and sleeps up to 24 in two apartments and two studios, which can be booked individually or together.
Patio area with seating directly outside the cottage (great sun trap!). We can provide a charcoal bbq on request. There is a larger garden area 50m from the cottage and this is included with the cottage. It is also available to guests of The Carriage House but is rarely busy. It is fully enclosed so safe for children and dogs but if you do let your dogs off the lead here please do clean up after them. There are sunny and shaded areas and seating and we can provide a gazebo on request.
In the summer of 2020 we developed a new space which is available to hire for guests of Piper Cottage and The Carriage House. This is called the RAWS (Relaxation And Wellness Space) and has beautiful lawns, a fully-fitted kitchen, bathroom, yoga studio/party room, outside terrace, covered seating area, gas bbq, bar area and six-person ASPEN hot tub. We hold day and weekend yoga retreats here as well as wedding receptions, parties and Capoeira classes. Please note that the RAWS is only available on request and there is an additional cost - please ask for prices. If available, you can also book a session for the hot tub only. Please note that regulations dictate that the hot tub must be emptied, cleaned, refilled and reheated between guests so advance notice is required. Minimum charge £50.
We also built our Hygge Room which is the room shown on the photos with the donkey picture. Hygge is a Danish word for a place of 'cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment and well-being'. This is a room for meetings or for socialising and can seat 12-14 people around the table. It is included for guests who book all four properties in The Carriage House but if you have booked just one property, please enquire about availability. Additional cost, price on request.
Guest Access: Please note that Piper Cottage is not easy to find without the following directions as it is within a courtyard and is not visible from the road. Come up Main Street, Bilbrough (postcode YO23 3PH) and you will pass the village pub, The Three Hares, on your right hand side. You will then pass the church on your left hand side. At the T-Junction, turn right and you will see that there is a brick wall on your right hand side. When this wall ends, you will see the entrance on your right hand side. Turn in there and you will see a five barred wooden gate in front of you, that should be closed. Open it inwards, towards you, and turn left immediately you are through the gate. You will see Piper Cottage in front of you and you can park directly in front of it. Please be aware that others park in this yard to please park so that you do not obstruct any other vehicle.
The Neighborhood: Nearest pubs are The Nag's Head in Askham Bryan ( six minute drive). and The White Swan in Wighill. Village park (enclosed) with play equipment. Lots of good walks from the doorstep; there are four public footpaths in the village and a public bridle path. We can provide secure storage for bicycles.
For late arrivals, we are three minutes by car from a petrol station with all essentials, plus a McDonald’s and Starbucks.
Getting Around: There are two off-road parking spaces directly outside Piper Cottage. It is very quiet village. There is one village bus (York Pullman, Number 37) that goes into York twice a day Monday to Friday and three times a day on Saturdays. The Leeds/York Coastliner operates every half an hour and the stop for this is only a 10 minute walk.
The best way to see York is to use the Park and Ride Service at Askham Bar (a six minute drive from Piper Cottage).
The Coastliner bus timetable can be found by putting transdevbus into a search engine.
York train station is six miles (fifteen to twenty minutes by car) from Piper Cottage. We have negotiated special rates with a local taxi firm - please see the photo on the listing for the price list.

Booking and collecting key process was outstanding, Linen and towels ultra clean and thank you for the Welcome Pack it was appreciated considering it took us 5 and half hours due to vehicle congestion on main roads....travelling from Essex......
Thank you again for helping me to dry towels due to Pooch coming back Black from a walk......White dog originally.....
Definately will bear your cottage in mind again when we come to visit family....
Kindest regards
