simple yet nice, offering a peaceful and uncluttered atmosphere
This place is a delightful retreat, perfect for a short stay. The self-equipped kitchen is ideal for preparing meals, and you'll be warmly greeted by Salty, the friendly dog, and two horses. A small plot of vineyard adds to the charm, along with plenty of open space to relax. Enjoy evenings by the fire pit, hosted by the kind and friendly host who ensures you are well looked after. The comfy bed and cottage-like ambiance make it a truly cozy and inviting escape.
We spent three glorious nights at Candlebark Retreat for a birthday getaway. Set in a serene location, this splendid property is located close to the attractions of Beechworth. At Candle Bark you will have exclusive access to the stars, the silence and the cottage garden, BBQ, birds (bring binoculars) a library of books and DVD’s and a fire pit in a private setting punctuated only with the welcome and brief visit of Salty the resident dog to check your safe arrival. If you want privacy and connect with nature in a comfortable setting, this is the place for you. The view of the surrounding hills envelopes you like a warm hug, a protective barrier from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. The quote from the movie ‘The Castle’ kept coming into my mind when I was soaking in the view. It was all about the Serenity. It was the perfect place to return to every evening after cycling the Murray to Mountains rail trail. The bed and linen made for a comfortable night’s sleep. The nights are quiet, and the wine from the vineyard meant we were well-rested to start the next day. This property is not too remote, and the lovely hosts (Fleur and Digby) are only a phone call away should you need anything. The cottage is very well appointed, very clean and comfortable. The detail and upkeep of the grounds are evident in the special feeling this place gives you. I highly recommend Candle Bark retreat.
A cosy cabin on a beautiful property with stunning views and so so peaceful. The perfect place to relax and sit with a cuppa or a wine and watch the abundance of wildlife.Close to the falls and a 5 min drive into town, what’s not to love!
This is a terrific place to get away from it all, the property is ideal for two adults, close to Beechworth and surrounded by nature. The hosts are close by but in no way intrusive.
Candlebark was perfect, everything as expected and more.
We had a lovely time, we got to relax as well as see the sights of Beechworth.
It was lovely waking up in the country yet being so close to Beechworth as well.
A lovely relaxing stay, I thoroughly enjoyed having my dinner each night at the table outside, looking out over the valley as the stars came to life. Only a 5 min drive into Beechworth. Will definitely look to stay there again. Many thanks to host Fleur and her furry helpers, Salty, Banjo, Big Charlie and Paegan.
Had the most incredible stay at candlebark. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and the cottage has so much character and comfort to it. Fleur and Digby are awesome hosts, who go above and beyond. Couldn’t recommend it more :) the more fire pit was a personal favourite, with a beautiful view of the stars
A well needed sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle. After a trying and tiring day it was lovely to be met by a friendly face offering a calm and peaceful spot among the bird songs. Had a great nights sleep and went on refreshed the next day.

Our stay at Candlebark Cottage was amazing. It’s a beautiful set-up in a peaceful location.
The cottage is literally next door to the vineyard which we took a stroll through. There’s cute benches set-up in front of the paddock, perfect for relaxing on and watching the sky change as the sun came down. The 2 horses came right up to the fence for a pat. The cottage itself was spacious and comfortable with everything we needed for a quiet little getaway. Fluer was very friendly and helpful, recommending a swimming spot only a short drive from the property. We would 100% come back and stay.

A relaxing place to go for 'service and repair'
We throroughly enjoyed our stay at Candlebark. It was so quiet and peaceful, just what we needed to recharge the batteries after a few very busy months of work. We loved it so much that we sent our kids there for a weekend to celebrate the end of their Science degrees. And we will definitely be going back. Fleur is amazing! Super organised and so helpful. This is going to be our home away from home.
