About this property

Bold Coast Camp Minutes from Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula

  • Bold Coast Camp is a quiet site on the village hill. This glamping gem is in walking distance to restaurants, passenger ferry, art galleries, shops, library, bank, post, farmers market and everyday provisions. Bike rental a few meters away from Bold Coast Camp can extend your travel through the village of Winter Harbor along coastal routes through Grindstone Neck, through the national park, and over to Prospect Harbor.

We are a 5 minute drive to the entrance of the Schoodic Loop of Acadia NP. A free, seasonal bus (search Island Explorer bus for schedule) picks up nearby and carries you about town and into the national park (entrance is less than a mile away). We are a 45 minute drive to Mount Desert Island/Bar Harbor. There is also a seasonal ferry within walking distance (about 5 minute walk) that takes you across Frenchman's Bay to Bar Harbor in 45 minutes. (May need a reservation for the ferry) It's a beautiful boat ride on a sunny day and you can often see porpoise and a variety of sea birds. The ferry generally runs into September. In Bar Harbor, you can hop on a free bus that will take you to Acadia and around town.

After a great day outdoors, return to the peaceful 5 meter bell tent, plenty of Berkey-filtered fresh water for drinking and clean, solar heated water for bathing. There is a Solo stove with plenty of kindling and a small bit of wood to start your evening (for long burns into the night please bring a roll of roadside camp wood). There is also a propane gas pit with comfortable chairs; a perfect setting for dark sky stargazing while wrapped in a cozy outside blanket. The tent sleeps two with a comfortable queen mattress made up with beautiful clean linens, outfitted for weather considerations and maximum comfort. A twin futon can be dressed as well for a third guest, or upon request. The portable toilet is close by, serviced weekly and for Bold Coast Camp guests only.

    Amenities include:
Soft towels, complimentary bar soap from local Prospect Harbor Soap Company provided. Small library, cards, games. Small courtesy of tea, coffee bags and cocoa to start your morning. There is a Coleman stove, (small propane canister needed), tea kettle, cups, spoons, napkins. Available ice cooler. Picnic Basket/cooler bag with bread board, knife, plates, wine glasses, forks, napkins, tablecloth, and tea towels. Basket of first aid needs.

Within the tent, please find our camp catalog with local events, restaurants, rentals, boat trips, and more for your convenience. There are recycle and disposal barrels beside the garage with extra bags for your convenience when disposing of waste. The extra wrap will keep an invitation for critters low.

I would love to welcome you to spend a few evenings under the stars; waking to early birds songs, fog horns, and bells, seagulls and eagles circling and sea breezes filling your senses. I'm sure you will enjoy your stay at Bold Coast Camp.

A totally comfy yurt with all amenities, and a lovely host. Have already shared this with other friends and will return myself as soon as I can. A very special spot at the brink of Schoodic, the secret prime best of Acadia.

Lovely

Beautiful, cozy, and comfy yurt. Everything we needed for camping. The location was quiet and out off the hustle and bustle of bar harbor. The host was very helpful, kind, and respected of our space.

Perfect stay

Margaret is a wonderful host and prepared the tent for anything one would need. The charging stations, robes, games, and kindling were especially helpful and unexpected. The bed as others have said was extremely comfortable and there were plenty of soft warm blankets for a nice sleep. We hope to be back one day!

Glamping

Camp site is cute and provides almost anything you could possibly want (could use some cookware). Bed was really comfortable, and the chorus of birds in the morning was lovely. Also there’s a friendly neighbor chicken that stops by to visit on occasion.

Great place but make sure of the weather.

The property is as described private but definitely not secluded. A suggestion would be definitely make sure to check the weather. We areived and it rained most of the weeks leading up to our stay and everything was damp as you know things in a tent will be. No ones fault but we only stayed the first night due to that. The owner was awesome and although the bed was damp ot was super comfy!

Glorious Glamping!

My 8 year old son and I had a magnificent 2 night stay here. The location of Winter Harbour was perfect for our daily treks and coming 'home' to the tent was awesome. Our host remembered all the great details: games, picnic basket, wine opener, solo stove, kindling and wood as well as starter paper. We had rain one night and we were so dry and cozy. the bedding is so comfortable! plenty of lighting as you need it but flashlights and lamps were plentiful. We did hang the shower bag one day to rinse off and it worked great. Overall, this was a different type of accommodation and i'm so glad we did it. I felt safe in this location. I mean.. except for the rooster chasing my son. (Kidding! it was one of the highlights! We had so many laughs about it!). I have recommended to others and would stay here again.

Let me start by saying Margaret was a kind, lovely lady who clearly put an enormous amount of care, time and effort into making a beautiful tent and camping area. The tent was lovely, spacious and clean, and contained many thoughtful amenities. There are wood burning and gas firepits, a sink area and a private shower area with plenty of water bags. The port o potty was very clean and smelled nice. The inside of the tent was lovely and we had robes, flashlights, games, lights, and the bed was very soft and comfortable. The issues we had were our expectations of it being near water and private, but it's basically a lovely campsite in someones back yard area and close to a busy road. We could mostly hear only traffic noise. The neighbors had a rooster that crowed very early in the am as well. It is only about 1/4 mile from one section of Acadia, but we didn't realize the main part of Acadia and Bar Harbor are 1 hours drive away. After spending the day in Acadia and having dinner in Bar Harbor, we didnt have the energy to drive back to the site for our 2nd night as it was very late so we found a cheap motel for the night close to Bar Harbor. If you don't mind being in someones back yard with no view or sound of the ocean, then it's a beautifully done campsite and I would highly recommend.

We had the most wonderful stay! The yurt itself was so clean and cozy. You could tell Margaret put a lot of thought into making her guests feel at home! The outside spaces were perfect for the cool nights, we made s’mores and looked at the stars. The bathroom/shower is a very short walk away, super clean and seems newly renovated. We took the first ferry (10am) to Bar Harbor in the morning and saw seals, porpoise, and bald eagles while on the boat. Rented an electric vehicle (we chose 4 hour rental), bought a park pass from them as well, and drove around Acadia stopping for short hikes. Our favorite places were Schooner head, Sand Beach and Jordan Pond (the Popovers were delicious!). We were back in time to drop off our “AcadiaGem” vehicle and had time to walk around the shops before our ferry departed from Bar Harbor back to Winter Harbor at 5:30pm (last one of the day). Once back at Winter Harbor we saw the sunset at Schoodic Point. You can explore on the rocks, watch the sunset, and if you’re lucky, like we were, you’ll get to see a humpback whale breaching in the distance! We would absolutely stay here again! It was all the best parts of camping, without needing any of the supplies.

We would definitely recommend staying in the yurt at Bold Coast Camp. Margaret was absolutely lovely to work and stay with. The new indoor plumbing is beautiful and practical. She even provides luxury soaps, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. If you drink coffee just bring along a French press and the little stove and tea kettle will work PERFECTLY for that first cup of coffee. She even provides the propane canister for the stove. We stayed during the heat wave, so didn’t use the wood provided for a fore, but did enjoy gazing at the stars. The lighted pathway to and from the guest bathroom was so thoughtful and helpful!! The yurt itself had EVERYTHING you could need or think of for a comfortable stay. We were a little concerned after the super hot day that the yurt would be stuffy and hot. We were so pleasantly surprised when we opened the vent windows and turned on the battery powered fans that Margaret provided. it was pleasant for relaxing and sleeping in. Margaret knows so much about her town Winter Harbor and Bar Harbor as well as Acadia. Per her recommendations, we ate at the Humble Grumble, Chase’s restaurant, and J.M. Gerrish in town and we’re delighted with the local fare. All were friendly, but each was distinctly different!! I cannot recommend the Bold Coast Camp with Margaret and Winter Harbor enough!!! Please, please reserve this experience so it will be there the next time we come back!!!

Me and boyfriend recently stayed here for a couple nights wanting the camping experience while also wanting to go to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Margaret was wonderful and she was so kind and extremely friendly and helpful. We loved the big book of recommendations inside our yurt and especially loved the mosquito bar walking distance right down the street! 10/10!

Margaret’s glamping set up is a singular tent on her private property. She’s done a great job at making it very comfortable, private, full of solar powered light, and all the amenities you could need. I I also much preferred Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor.

A perfect stay

Our stay during our Acadia vacation was just what we hoped for. The host had thought of everything we might need in the tent, the location was quiet, private and 5 min from the quiet part of Acadia. It’s about an hour to bar harbor but we were so glad to be off the beaten path in our cozy tent. Did i mention the bed was so comfy and the bakery actoss the street sooo delicious. Highly recommend

Relaxing stay on the Schoodnic Peninsula

Relaxing, cozy tent with an incredibly comfy bed, walking distance to Chase's restaurant and the ferry to Bar Harbor, and a friendly host and resident cat!. The camp shower was fine, but suggest showering at night after the water has been in the sun! The outdoor bathroom = a port a potty, the cleanest I have ever used!

Winter Harbor Glamping

Very comfortable. Amenities more than advertised: has outdoor furniture, raised fire pit, camping shower, extension cord for charging devices, ample cozy blankets, local guide book, star charts, games, linens. Location adjacent to Schoodic Peninsula is perfect, close by to fabulous dining. Be sure to eat the scallops at Chase's, and breakfast / lunch at Gerrish's cafe. A charming hostess made sure we were happy while providing privacy.

Great location for walking to restaurants or quick access to Schoodic Peninsula and all its beauty! Check-in was easy, bed super comfortable. Gas fire pit and solo stove for wood camp fires. Back corner of backyard, but felt private. Lovely spot! The shower bags got hot in the sun, but there wasn’t a place high enough to hang them to actually take a shower. One small improvement would be to rig a pulley system to get the shower bag up near head level! Also, the solar patio lights were nice, but we couldn’t figure out how to turn them off!

Exactly the glamping experience that we came for. It's a little ways away from the main Park, but we prefer going off the beaten path - it was definitely worth our while. The campsite has everything you could possibly need - all you need is your shampoo and coffee! All touches are so thoughtful and welcoming. Margaret's surrounding gardens are just gorgeous. You may be lucky to receive a visit from Charlie 1, the calico cat! Margaret is a beautiful soul and a perfect host. There if you need her or care for a chat, but otherwise leaves you to do your thing. Highly recommend this spot

Just Wonderful!

Everything about this listing is accurate- it's the perfect balance of camping and modern comfort amenities! The bakery next door makes delicious food and coffee, and the property managers are so easy to work with. We were only there two nights and it was pretty chilly so we never did try the shower, but it all looked clean and easy to use! 10/10 would recommend and come back again! Thank you!

Glamping at its Finest

Magical Yurt! Everything was so fresh and clean. All the joy of camping - bird song, sound of rain on the roof, cool breezes - but with the comfort of a bedroom - comfy mattress, warm blankets, dry clothes. Amenities were terrific, just as advertised, with the addition of a delightful wood burning stove. Plan to come again. Very romantic!! Margaret was very responsive to questions, a delightful host.
