At the heart of it all is Lake Windermere (2 miles), where you can board a cruise, hire a kayak, or simply stroll along the shoreline. Head to Bowness-on-Windermere (2.5 miles) for lakeside cafes, independent shops and relaxed dining with a view. Walkers are spoilt for choice. Orrest Head (2 miles) is one of the most accessible viewpoints in the area, with panoramic vistas that are especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset. For something more challenging, venture 5 miles to tackle Wansfell Pike, rewarding you with sweeping views across the central fells. Explore Ambleside (6 miles), known for its charming streets and cosy eateries, or take a longer scenic drive to Grasmere (10 miles) for literary heritage and classic Lakeland scenery. Inside, a sumptuous sofa takes centre stage in front of an electric wood-burner-effect fire, creating a cosy focal point for evenings in.
