About this property

Rapunzel, Family Home with Garden in Central Winchester

  • Summary:

Two bedrooms upstairs and space for six: a double room, a twin room with two single beds, and a sofa bed for two in the lounge. There's one bathroom, with a large bath and a shower, and the toilet is in its own room next door. Downstairs, the lounge opens into a dining area and a kitchen with a breakfast bar, and the back door leads to a small enclosed garden. Winchester station is about 4 minutes on foot and the High Street 5.

    The Space:

    Sleeping

Bedroom 1 (upstairs): UK double bed, 135 cm wide (about the size of a US full).

Bedroom 2 (upstairs): two single beds.

Lounge (ground floor): a sofa bed that sleeps two.

Hotel-quality cotton linen and towels are ready for all six of you, with spare pillows and blankets.

    Bathroom

One bathroom, upstairs, with a large bath and a shower. The toilet is in a separate room beside it, and it is the only toilet in the house.

    Kitchen and dining

Oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle and a coffee maker, with baking trays, cookware, crockery and wine glasses. There's a breakfast bar as well as a dining table.

    Living

Sofas and a large Smart TV, with books and board games for quieter evenings.

    Outside

A small enclosed garden with roses and a seat, reached through the kitchen.

    Everyday practicals

Wi-Fi throughout, a laptop-friendly space to work, a washing machine, tumble dryer and iron, heating and a hair dryer.

    Travelling with children

Children and babies are welcome. You'll find a high chair, a stair gate, and children's books and toys in the house. Both bedrooms are upstairs. There is no cot at the moment; please bring a travel cot if you need one.

    Bringing your dog

Up to two dogs are welcome, and a pet fee applies. The garden is enclosed.

    Good to know

The one free parking permit covers a small zone on nearby streets, and those spaces fill up quickly, so many guests use the pay car park on Tower Street, around two minutes' walk. Tower Street itself is narrow, so it's best to unload with someone staying by the car.

    Guest Access:

The whole house is yours. Self check-in is by lockbox from 4 pm, with the last arrivals at 9 pm, and departure is by 10 am. One free digital permit for parking Zone R is set up for your stay, and you can pull up outside briefly with your hazard lights on to unload.

    The Neighborhood:

On foot from the house: the Theatre Royal and the Arc on Jewry Street 1 to 2 minutes, the High Street 5, the Great Hall and the Round Table 7, Winchester Cathedral 10, the Guildhall 11, the Broadway 12 and Wolvesey Castle 14. Families can follow the Water Meadows walk from the cathedral to St Cross, and the Cathedral Christmas Market runs through November and December. St Catherine's Hill is about 5 minutes by car, and the South Downs and the New Forest are within easy reach for days out.

    Getting Around:

Winchester station is about 4 minutes' walk, and its trains reach London Waterloo and Southampton without a change. The Royal Hampshire County Hospital is about 17 minutes on foot and the University of Winchester about 19.

    Other Things to Note:

ID check and deposit: after booking, the lead guest completes a short ID check and deposit step with our partner SafeGuest. You choose either a Damage Deposit of £350 (your card is saved and nothing is taken up front; it can only be charged for a claim SafeGuest approves after check-out) or SafeGuest's No Deposit fee of £40 (a one-off fee paid to SafeGuest). If you can't use the photo ID check, message us and we'll arrange a short video call instead. Please don't send ID documents by email. Your booking is on the Blue Puffin Stays Booking Terms (Guests) and the House Rules for this home.

The lockbox check-in window ends at 9 pm, and we are not able to offer later arrivals.

    Interaction with Guests:

Our own local Blue Puffin Stays team looks after Rapunzel on Tower. Message us on Vrbo any day between 8 am and 8 pm and we'll help with parking, train times and where to eat in Winchester. Your check-in message includes an emergency number for anything urgent during your stay.

Always enjoy our annual stay in Winchester. The apartment was in a great location. Easily walkable to restaurants, high street and the cathedral. Thanks for hosting Andrew.

I found the vrbo app difficult to navigate and log in. The apartment itself is situated on a tight bend with only room for one car to pass.Although a free car permit was provided, it was difficult to actually find a space which was limited. One evening we had to use the nearby overnight public car park which we had to pay for.The wi-fi password was incorrect on website. The radiator in the bathroom had no heat.In the property looking out towards the garden from the master bedroom, a generator was running all night which disturbed our sleep.Master bedroom light shade full of dust.Kitchen bin lid needed fixing.Garden needs attention. The double bed was a little tight for two persons.Drawers in master bedroom difficult to open.Ample amounts of storage for clothes.Good amount of pillows and bed linen, towels, etc.Well stocked kitchen utensils, etc.Very clean.Would come back again.
