Fantastic property in a beautiful location situated right on the river next to the steam train line. The Mill is extremely well maintained and clean and has everything you could want in the way of furnishings. From the fully equipped kitchen and bathrooms, to the spacious open plan living area with plenty of comfortable sofas and huge number of games, jigsaws and books to keep you entertained while relaxing at the property. Overall a lovely warm and cosy stay in one of the country’s most beautiful areas and a great base to see the moors and North Yorkshire coast. Will definitely go back and will recommend to family and friends.

This is a great holiday home in a wonderful location.
This is a great holiday home in a wonderful location. The place was really clean and the welcome basket was such a nice touch and really appreciated. It’s always warm and the fire is nice to use at night time. The kids loved watching the trains go by from the windows, and the fact that the station is on the doorstep means it’s really quick and easy to see them properly. There’s loads of great walking in the area and if you want to jump in the car it’s not too far from the coast. It rained quite a bit when we were there but there’s a good selection of board games at your disposal. Great British holiday

This was an amazing holiday.
This was an amazing holiday. The Mill was a perfect base for exploring North Yorkshire. The accommodation was perfect for us sofas and beds were very comfortable. The location was so peaceful next to the stream and the railway. In normal circumstances it would have been perfect for our train mad family but even without the NYMR running properly we still saw a few trains.
We really want to come back soon.

As usual, another wonderful stay at The Mill. The owners had made best use of “lockdown” and redecorated a number of the rooms. The Mill was immaculately clean.

We have enjoyed many holidays in the Mill, it is everything a holiday home should be.
We have enjoyed many holidays in the Mill, it is everything a holiday home should be. It is very clean, warm and is equipped with everything anyone could possibly need for their stay. It is in a great location next to the river/stream and the steam railway station, with great walks straight from the door and a few pubs/hotels in the village serving good food. A unique cottage that is a joy to stay in.

A beautiful, cosy and very spacious cottage.
A beautiful, cosy and very spacious cottage. Set in an idyllic location next to the river and steam railway station. Perfect location for walks straight from the door and an abundance of wildlife. Only a short drive to Whitby or Pickering or you could just jump on the steam railway. Great local pubs, restaurants and shops only a 5 minute walk away. The Mill has everything you need and is a real home from home. The bed was extremely comfy and has a fantastic shower! It has been lovingly restored and is beautifully maintained and decorated to a very high standard. We loved reading the history, old and recent and found the owner Ann lovely to communicate with. It truly is a holiday cottage with a heart. We will definitely return.

One of best cottages we have stayed in. Perfect location for watching the birds, seeing the steam train and watching the waterfall. A short walk up to the pubs and shops. Was nice after a long drive to come in to a welcome pack saving nipping back out for bread and milk. The cottage was spotless clean and very well equipped.

The Mill in Goathland is an absolute gem.
The Mill in Goathland is an absolute gem. The location is perfect for walks straight out onto the moors. There was a lovely welcome pack and The Mill was spotlessly clean. The beds were really comfy and there was plenty of room to sit and relax to watch the birds on the bird feeders. Really enjoyed reading the history of the building and there was so much information about things to do and places to visit in the area. Whitby is only 9 miles away. Dalby Forest is also a short distance drive. We were a little early in the season for a trip on the steam train but enjoyed chatting to the volunteers getting the station ready for the coming season. We will definitely return very soon.

The Mill is a great place to stay, location is fantastic, and it is great to see the steam trains go past your windows everyday.
The house is immaculate, well laid out and very comfortable.
Goathland has a few general stores, Tea rooms, Pubs, so has most things you need within walking distance.
Lovely welcome pack left for us on arrival, would recommend 100%.

Having stayed in numerous cottages this was the best!! Perfect cottage in a perfect location. Absolutely spotlessly clean and everything thought of. Lovely welcome pack. Perfectly located for walking in the surrounding area. So comfortable wouldn't of been bothered if it rained as would of been quite happy to stay in. Tried to book again for later in the year but unfortunately for us there was no availability. Will definitely return. Highly recommended

Wonderful selection of books, dvds, cds, games and local information if you are unlucky enough to get poor weather (we didn’t).Everything about the Mill was at least on a par with any cottage we have ever stayed in(20+).The outlook from the cottage was stunning and the close proximity of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway was a massive bonus. It is separated from the cottage only by the river/waterfall which runs alongside the property.

For us, a perfect cottage in a perfect location, right at the side of the river and Goathland Station with large windows for watching the garden birds, and French doors from which to wave at the passing steam trains (very Railway Children!)
The cottage is a home from home with the best equipped kitchen I've come across in a holiday cottage. The owners have thought of everything, from mountains of wood for the burner to plastic buckets to put over the outside lights so we could appreciate the Dark Skies. It's obvious from the very first correspondence that ensuring their customers enjoy their stay is of paramount importance. Goathland is a beautiful location, with easy access to walks around the NY Moors and the stunning coastal towns of Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay and more.
Just make sure your handbrake is working well, as the cottage drive is quiet steep! But then it is in one of the hilliest parts of the UK!
We loved this cottage and will definitely return asap (if only we could retire there!).

We have passed 'The Mill' several times during visits to Goathland and jumped at the chance of actually staying there. We were delighted with our choice. Having read previous reviews of the property I doubt I can find any new superlatives to top the praise already given. All I can say is that this is a spotlessly clean, cosy, comfortable, very well furnished property which welcomes you with open arms!! For rail enthusiasts it is manna from heaven - located bang next door to the North York Moors Railway station: you can sit on the patio (weather permitting) or at the lounge window and watch the trains steam by. It is ideally located for walking or cycling the many tracks and trails in the area, and if you want to leave your car at 'home', the local bus (to Whitby) passes by just, at the top of the road. We really enjoyed our stay at The Mill and should the opportunity arise we would love to visit again. So go on spoil yourself - book a break at The Mill, I don't think you'll regret it!
