There is lots to do in Whitby.
Whilst in Whitby you have to try the world famous fish and chips available from numerous cafes on the sea front. Whitby was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's novel Dracula which he wrote whilst staying at Whitby. On the hill there is the historic ruins of Whitby Abbey which was the inspiration for Carthax Abbey in Dracula. Whitby also has a sea faring history being the home of Captain Cook which there is a Captain Cook museum in which you can discover more about the legendary sea farer. At high season there is August Whitby Regatta when you can see some amazing ships and boats. At the life boat museum you can find about the various daring rescues performed by the Whitby lifeguards over the many years.
If music is your thing then Whitby is the place for you hosting the world famous Whitby Goth Weekend twice a year, the 1960s weekend, the Folk Festival, Jazz and Soul Festival plus you also get to hear music and see films at the Bram Stokers International Film Festival at Whitby.

A lovely place to spend Christmas, fully equipped to be able to cook a traditional dinner. The cottage is very warm, we had no need to use the wood burner, which I was disappointed about The cottage is ideally placed within reach of amenities. We visited the Abbey, church and the centre of Whitby on Xmas Eve & travelled into Sandsend on Boxing Day for a bracing walk on the beach.
Charming in great clifftop location, extremely wet and windy weather which made the cottage even cosier. Very convenient having a shower room downstairs as well as an en suite upstairs. Would recommend to anyone
What a find! A little gem of a cottage, cosy, spick and span and lacking nothing. The sea view was breathtaking and the bed was sooooo comfortable, I didn't want to get out of it! Thank you so much Joanne for providing us with the means to have a well deserved rest and brilliant break.
Really enjoyed my stay, it's the second time I have been here and love it, great location enjoy the peace and quiet the walks, and the trips into Whitby, will be back next year
Had a wonderful time really enjoyed the peace & quiet.Lots of great walks from the property in all directions. Easy stroll into Whitby where you can get the bus to Staithes and walk back to the property or train to Grosmont & also walk back. Communication was first class & a great nights sleep was guaranteed. We were also very lucky with the weather.
It’s our third time at the cottage and I love it more every time. If you love peace and quiet, cliff top walking and wildlife then this is the place for you!

Lovely stay, beautiful location and stunning cottage. Short 15/20 minute walk to the Abbey. Peaceful location and out of the way for those quieter stays away. Easy to locate and has everything you need.
This is the second time we have stayed at Wildgoose cottage and I hope it's not the last. A lovely quiet break in an ideal location.Everything provided .
Good communication with host with quick response time. A very well planned out barn conversion. You relax as soon as you enter! A bright, fresh, clean welcome. Terrific location with easy reach of local area and further afield. Beautiful sunrises from the roof window and a plethora of wildlife from the stairs window, along with picturesque sunsets.
My partner and I stayed for a long weekend, and plan on returning for longer. The cottage was perfect. Quiet, beautiful, and clean, with all the amenities you could need. The views were amazing and the town was only 5 minutes away.
