Private, Beautiful Lake Front Home in Prime Location
Welcome to our beloved home, Le Chaumiere Sur Lac which simply translates to "The Lake House."
We are so excited to share our slice of heaven with you! We built this house and have enjoyed it to the fullest for years; but it's time to let others in on the magic as well!
Our house is located on County Road 440 which is a staple road in Munising with a prime location for snowmobiling, ATVing, hiking, sight-seeing, private lake front property, and so much more. The house sits on its very own private and secluded piece of land, with easy access right off the road. We are only 1 of 3 other properties on this entire inland lake so it truly feels like your very own. Our large spacious yard hosts the ability for relaxing next to a campfire at night, kayaking the lake to watch the sunrise, plenty of room for yard games, a delicious back-yard barbeque, and more! We have two large decks on both levels of the home that beg to be enjoyed with morning coffee, or a clear UP night to sit and star gaze.
Inside of our newly built home we offer a fully stocked kitchen, bedrooms with the most beautiful lake view complete with all bedding, two full bathrooms with towels provided and a beautiful, spacious open concept layout perfect for your whole family to enjoy or even just a couple's getaway. This truly is such a pristine vacation destination- guaranteed to provide the exact type of retreat you need.
As mentioned, our location is truly spectacular and very sought after. You have a great opportunity to take day trips exploring all the Upper Peninsula has to offer on convenient roads, a general store for any forgotten items- (and ice cream!), only a few miles up the road, you can leave right from the front door on your ATV or snowmobile and access major trail systems, or you can find enough to do right on site and have a spectacular "stay-cation" right at the house.
We are so honored to host and are confident you will quickly fall in love with our own little paradise. Family memories are a sure thing here at Le Chaumiere Sur Lac.

Where do I even start! The house is perfect, the location is peaceful and close to everything we love in the UP. My son fished in the lake and caught his first pike and now has a harrowing story to tell his friends, it really was a battle! We kayaked and enjoyed the stillness only the UP has to offer. Several trips to the Midway store gave us awesome opportunities for ice cream and meeting so many wonderful people! We loved every minute here, the house is equipped with everything we need for great meals. Our dog even had an amazing time lounging on the patio. Can’t wait to come back for another stay!
We really enjoyed our stay. Very nice property and home. 30 to 40 minute drive to Munising and grocery store so plan accordingly. Thank you for being dog friendly!! We would definitely book again.
This property was nothing short of awesome! It’s very secluded and private. The owners were willing to work with us on early check in and were very responsive. It is about 45 mins to any kind of bigger town but was overall worth it!
Locating the property was fine. Communication with the property manager was great. It was close enough to attractions but yet secluded enough away from the hustle and bustle.
Such a nice lake cabin. Beautiful views, great outdoor space, and secluded. You may not have phone reception so make sure you get/have WiFi access and paper maps for backup as you may not have GPS.
We had a great time. It was very peaceful and relaxing. Still close enough to go in to Munsing. The only thing is the map does not take you to the right address.
We stayed for 2 nights with another couple. The house is located in a heavily wooded area in the Hiawatha National Forest so it is quiet, secluded and on a beautiful small lake.
It has a well stocked kitchen and a very comfortable living area and dining room that looks out over the lake. The couple we were with are already thinking about renting the house again.
The cottage was very cute and in a very relaxing setting. We liked the peaceful feel.
It was 9mi further away from Munising than we expected from the VRBO map which shows the place closer to hwy 13. It was a 40min drive to town.
We also think the basement bedrooms smelled very musty and saw some signs of mold on the art decor.
This beautiful home was great for my husband, myself, daughter, son in law and little grandson (although the house isn’t really set up to accommodate little ones). Sunrise over the beautiful small lake was a treat. Be sure to bring bug spray… the mosquitoes are awful, as they seemed to be all over the UP this time of year. The house was a bit difficult to find using some map apps, so I suggest the owner add some additional clarification on the instructions. I would certainly recommend this rental and hope to return one day.
The house is great. They could have given more info regarding the property like where things are we had to hunt around for the life jackets, and little things could have been better like there were dishes left in dishwasher and towels left in the dryer. The stove and grills were not clean, but that aside it was a comfortable, peaceful, lovely house. There is no air conditioning but we didn’t need it as the weather wasn't hot. The lake was nice for kayaking and just an fyi not a swimming lake. Overall a nice place.
If you only read 2 sentences, READ THIS. After you turn on Co Rd 400/42.5 from FH 13, Do Not leave the paved road. All our map apps and gps said to turn on 36. It is an ATV trail. Now the good. House is so nice and decorated beautifully. The kitchen is so well stocked that there is nothing you should have to bring except your food. The house was very clean.

Location very hard to find. Impossible with Google maps. It’s about 30 miles to Munising from the cabin. No toiletries such as body wash or shampoo provided. Spotty cell service. Unable to login to home internet. Both bedrooms are downstairs and one bathroom downstairs and one upstairs. I do not recommend if you have trouble with stairs. It was on a small lake which was nice. Cabin was clean.

Liked: Communication, location, listing accuracy
Very nice, but …
Had no trouble finding this lovely place on the lake. Overall enjoyed our stay, however:
House needed a deep cleaning.
Beds were uncomfortable. Foam mattress toppers were too hot. Sheets and blankets didn’t fit the king bed.
Both bedrooms/1 bathroom are downstairs, and dehumidifier needed emptying several times a day.
Refrigerator water dispenser incredibly slow.
Window screens needed cleaning.
Outdoor grills very dirty and in disrepair.
Stairway handrails not secure.
Three light bulbs in living/dining room were burnt out.
Beautiful backyard to unwind but had incorrect location/pin for listing
Our family enjoyed the beautiful backyard view, dock and kayaks. We grilled several nights and also cooked smores over the fire pit. It was a nice, fairly quiet place to unwind. We had zero cell service for miles (Verizon) so it was nice to have Wi-Fi. Cons: You will not have signal for GPS. The pin on the VRBO listing was wrong. It was 8.1 miles further down the road than what the listing/map showed (we printed it off before travel). We had to stop at a random house and ask for help as we had zero cell service. The communication with the property manager went well and we eventually found the property but they mentioned that they've had problems in the past with people locating the house. We drove 10 hours and this was extremely frustrating after travel. Please update your listing to reflect accurate location/address/pin for GPS. With it being 8.1 miles down the road it took an additional 15 minutes one way to all of our activities. We spent more time driving to and from the house than we anticipated. The beds were not comfortable (all located downstairs in the basement) and the basement had a musty/damp smell even with all of the portable fans running. The ceiling fan upstairs was off-balanced and we were afraid to use it. Upstairs became very hot during the day (July). The refrigerator was leaking and there was a note to keep a towel under the fridge for a water leak. Overall, we felt the location was deceiving and price point was high.
Very nice getaway. Great central location for lots of sightseeing and the perfect spot to spend the day fishing, kayaking, and sitting around a campfire.
Amazing surroundings situated in a private forest area with a personal lake. The house was even more accommodating than the listing showed. Our dogs loved the grassy landscape too.
We truly enjoyed our time at the cabin. It’s situated in Hiawatha National Forest, by the lake,- great place to relax and recharge. Cabin was just as described: beautifully decorated, clean, well equipped with everything needed for a longer stay. It even had two kayaks available.Host was easily reached and very accommodating. Highly recommended!
We loved our stay! Everything was so clean and comfortable. Exactly as listed and more beautiful in person. If you are not used to well water, plan to bring your own. Kitchen was very well stocked and had spices and extra things I needed to make dinners. We would definitely stay here again!
We enjoyed our stay at the house. We had plenty of space to spread out. We enjoyed kayaking on the lake. The mattress topper in the main bedroom is a bit too soft. Also, the nearest grocery store is 30 min away so plan accordingly.
