The town of Wattens is most famous for its crystals, but the charming destination also offers authentic Tyrolean culture and a backdrop of soaring alpine peaks.

Follow in the footsteps of ancient civilizations in a town that was settled even before the Romans colonized Tirol. The first written records of the village date back to A.D. 930. The town became internationally famous with the arrival of the Swarovski family, who established their business here in 1895.

Wander around the town centre of Wattens to see picturesque sights such as St. Mary’s Parish Church. Stop at the Wattens Museum to learn about the ancient and industrial history of the town.

Enter the dazzling Swarovski Crystal Worlds. This multifaceted museum celebrates the beauty of crystals and is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the region. Stroll through stunning landscaped gardens or tour through the 16 Chambers of Wonder, which feature inventive and varied art installations inspired by crystals.

Visit Crystal Worlds in May to enjoy Music in the Giant, a celebrated festival of orchestral music held in this exhilarating location.

Marvel at the variety of machines on display in the Typewriter Museum. This curious attraction displays over 450 functioning typewriters and features exhibits on the importance of writing and lettering.

Leave the town centre and head into the surrounding alps. Come here for skiing in winter or hiking in summer. The famous Inn Cycle Path runs through Wattens on a memorable 323-mile (520-kilometre) route along the River Inn.

Drive 20 minutes east of to reach Wattens or use one of the trains that run to the town centre. Once here, explore the town on foot to see all the sights.

Visit Wattens throughout the year to see typical Tyrolean seasonal events. Winter offers Christmas markets, spring involves religious observances, while summer promises fire-lit solstice celebrations and the Tyrolean Festival of Fairy Tales and Legends.
