The location was great and the motel was so cute! Highly recommend this spot if you’re visiting the Badlands - we loved it! The owner was kind and really helpful and the property was really well cared for and clean.

What a great find this turned out to be. Passing through when we found this quaint spot online. Very well appointed and comfortable with a kitchenette. Absolutely spotless and comfortable. The owner, Jane, was welcoming and helpful on the phone. Highly recommend.

Amazing little oasis in Wasta! On the last leg of our 12 day trip this adorable motel is just what these weary travelers needed. Adorable little suite with comfy beds, super clean, kitchenette and everything you need. Less than 30 minutes from Rapid City makes this the perfect place to relax. Super cute little bar nearby with good food and friendly small town atmosphere! My only regret is that we only stayed one night!! Highly recommend the Wagon Wheel!!

What a blessing to have such a laid back place to lay our heads. The room was clean and furnished nicely. Everything you need for a few days of relaxing. Jayne ( even tho I didn’t meet her in person) was helpful and so friendly to message with. Our kinda place, we’ll be back.

I loved everything about staying at the Wagon Wheel. The kitchenette is a very generous and unexpected plus for any traveler. I absolutely love the neighbor I met who quickly became a friend. The Wagon Wheel is a little gem in a town of around 78, kind and trustworthy folks…I hear a new baby is on the way, increasing the population! The owners, Jayne and Paul are well versed in creating a wonderful place to stay that felt like a home to me. If I’d had the time on my road trip, I’d have stayed longer.

I had booked a stay at the Wagon Wheel for August 5th, as a one-night stay on a road trip. Admittedly, we never ended up staying the night. My first interaction with the owner was pleasant, we received instructions for check in and some room adjustments. Entering the room was seamless and first impressions were good. However, the mattresses in a word, were DISGUSTING. One was old, worn down with mild tears and stains with insect debris littered throughout (I suspect ants or flies, but can’t know for sure). The other mattress had a zip bag over it (strange, since the other one did not), and was horribly stained and had black spots all down the sides. I recorded photos for documentation and immediately drove to the office at the Redwood Motel to alert the representative there. When I brought the photos to the representative, I said that I could not stay at the property while it was in this condition and requested a refund. I was given one quickly and seamlessly, but also alerted her that the mattresses should be replaced ASAP. I was told that since they were not a “chain hotel” there was nothing they could do (like your patrons don’t deserve clean beds too??). After the refund, I was unnecessarily informed that they would be easily booking my room “in ten minutes” for how busy the weekend was. That was quite passive aggressive of her and we did not appreciate her comments. Until these issues are resolved, I would not recommend staying here.

We hope that you will allow for imperfections in the future from other establishments but we believe that probably won’t be the case as you are the type of person to find flaws wherever you lodge. The issue you cite has been remedied and we certainly wish you all the joy as you travel through life. We also hope the next unfortunate host has a less painful lashing after you tear apart their space in search of something to complain about.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Wagon Wheel! Check-in was super easy, the cabin was cozy, very clean, and very comfortable. It had everything we needed for a nice stay including kitchen supplies and a window AC unit that kept us cool despite the heat. Jayne was so kind and hospitable. We spoke with her a few days before arriving to let her know that we were bringing our dog, and she was incredibly kind and accommodating. She also called us after we arrived to make sure we had everything we needed. The next morning we enjoyed the quick drive to Wall and the Badlands. We will definitely be back!

Based on the newness of this hotel and the inexperience of the owner/manager the 9.1 Exceptional Rating seemed fabricated and overstated. No Smoke Alarm, the locking of the front door required a demo of how to do it by the manager. Little to no dining options nearby. Manager did not offer a method for payment, and we were billed 16 days later. On a scale of 1 to 5 this was a 2.5

This was a great find on Expedia! SUPER CLEAN & a nice change from the big hotels. We comfortably sat on the front deck area when we got in & got to see a deer walk past us. Communication with owner was great for a very easy check in. Already shared photos with our friends back home as this was a great find.

We booked this place traveling from Utah to Wisconsin. Our personal experience was a complete disaster. We booked through Expedia and received a confirmation of booking and payment. We drove 10 hours our first day and got to this place at around 10:30pm. We arrived to find out the property does not have any attendant staff onsite. I further reviewed our itinerary and discovered that the host has to send you a key code with a room assignment to check-in, which we did not get the day of in an e-mail. Tried calling the host number 4 different times that evening and got a voicemail to leave a message and someone would return my call. Mind you, this is at 10:30pm and we are 45 minutes east of Rapid City. We called Expedia Customer service (only positive) and customer service also tried to contact the host/owner multiple times with no success. After a hour on the phone communicating with Expedia trying to reach the property owner, they gave up and said the only other option was to book us a room at another hotel back in Rapid City. Thankfully Expedia offered to pay the difference on a hotel room in Rapid City due to this issue. Kudos to them and their fantastic customer service for helping us in a dire situation stranded. 24 hours later we still have not heard back from the property owner for any explanation after our initial voicemail and Expedia’s attempt to reach them. If you book here, confirm in advance with the property to avoid our experience.

This was a great stay! I was hesitant to book such a new property with limited reviews, but this was a terrific find. The pictures don't do it justice! This place was exceptionally clean and cute, 20 minutes to Badlands. Despite the town being very small and arriving after dark, we never felt unsafe and the area was well lit. We came prepared with our own food, and we utilized the full size fridge and microwave. There was a coffee maker/coffee and a set of chairs on both the back and front porch, which we enjoyed the following morning. Would definitely stay here again!

A comfortable stay in Badlands area.
A modern place for travelers in a very small town near Badlands with very peaceful surroundings. Our check in and stay went well and smoothly. A small kitchen for self cooking. Beds were comfortable.
