The best area to stay in Virú is the central district, particularly around the Plaza de Armas.

This area is the heart of Virú, offering easy access to local amenities and a glimpse into daily life. The Plaza de Armas is a central green space, often surrounded by the main church and municipal buildings. You'll find local eateries and small shops within walking distance, making it convenient for exploring on foot.

For travellers looking for a local experience, staying near the Plaza de Armas is ideal. It provides an opportunity to interact with the community, sample local cuisine, and observe the rhythm of the town. It's a good base for those interested in the cultural aspects of Virú.

Those seeking convenience for onward travel or access to the Pan-American Highway might consider accommodations closer to the main thoroughfare.

The best time to go to Virú is during the dry season, which generally runs from May to November, offering the most pleasant weather for exploring.

During these months, you'll experience clear skies and warm temperatures, making it ideal for outdoor activities like visiting the archaeological sites or enjoying the beaches. The lack of rain means roads are in good condition, and you can comfortably explore the Virú Valley.

For travellers interested in historical exploration, particularly couples or solo adventurers, this period is superb for visiting sites like the pre-Incan Castillo de Tomabal. The agreeable weather allows for extended time outdoors without the discomfort of humidity or unexpected downpours.

If your trip involves visiting the coastline and enjoying the Pacific Ocean, the dry season ensures calm waters and plenty of sunshine.
