The best area to stay in Villefranche, Occitanie, France, is the historic centre, particularly around the Place Notre Dame.

This charming area is the heart of Villefranche, characterised by its narrow, cobbled streets and medieval architecture. The Place Notre Dame, dominated by the impressive Collégiale Notre-Dame, is a central gathering point. You'll find a good selection of independent shops, local restaurants, and cafes tucked away in the surrounding lanes, making it very pleasant to explore on foot.

For couples, the historic centre offers a romantic and relaxing base. You can enjoy strolls through the ancient streets, discover hidden courtyards, and dine at intimate local eateries. The proximity to the Aveyron River also provides opportunities for pleasant riverside walks.

Families will also find the historic centre convenient. Its pedestrian-friendly nature means children can explore with ease, and there are often local markets held in the main squares which can be an enjoyable experience for everyone.

The best time to go to Villefranche is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to early October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.
