Private Chalet Near State Forest | Game Room, Fire Pit & Views
Walking along the deck feels a bit like you are entering a 3-story tree house. The glass french doors lead you into the great room where you’ll find cathedral ceilings with plenty of windows to enjoy the forest from indoors as well as out. The open living space contains a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and large dining room table. Down a short hall on the main floor are two bedrooms with queen beds and a full bath.
Walk up the stairs to the loft which overlooks the great room, and get another wonderful view of the windows looking out to the hardwood forest. In the loft you'll find a third bedroom with a king bed, a bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and a sitting room. At Chanterelle Chalet you'll also enjoy a partially furnished basement with equipped game room, wood stove insert for heat in the winter, and a third full bathroom.
The house is at the end of a road that dead-ends into the forestry, and lies on a large piece property adjacent to state forest, providing ample privacy and great forest viewing! Relax in the hammock and enjoy the spectacular colors of the leaves in the fall, go for a long hike and watch the birds and other wildlife, listen to the sound of owls and whippoorwills while you star gaze or sit by the outdoor fire pit in the evenings. Test your naturalist skills in identifying the vast number of mushrooms, plants (medicinal and other) and tree species that grow around the property and in the adjacent forestry.
The house has central air and heat as well as a wood stove insert with glass door in the basement, so you'll be comfortable no matter what time of year you visit. Children will have fun playing in the sand pile and on the swing set, as well as in the game room downstairs. There are smart TV's (Roku) with basic Direct TV and blueray/dvd players are located on both the first floor and in the basement.
Your well-behaved dog is welcome, and the house has a large fenced pet area on the side of the house where he/she can enjoy the outdoors without you worrying about them (note, obviously test the fence for your animal before trusting them there, as a few smart dogs have figured out how to climb or otherwise escape, although most remain contained and content. Also note that several of the neighbors have horses, dogs, cats and chickens, so please be respectful that your animal doesn't disturb them).
The house is five minutes from Lake Lemon and Danny Smith Park, 15 minutes from Nashville, IN, Brown County State Park, and Bloomington, IN. It is about 20 minutes from Lake Monroe and Indiana University--and functions as a great place to stay with family or friends for IU games and events. The house is also close to IU hospital, Yellowwood state forest, Morgan Monroe state forest, and the Tecumseh trail, as well as miles of popular biking roads. Come nature enthusiasts for the fall colors, wildflower viewing, mushroom hunting, long bike rides on the country roads, hiking, or just a place to escape, relax and unwind!

This house was great to stay in. Our friends were so impressed and want to come back some time and rent this place again. My wife and I would love to come back with our children and dogs and spend a relaxing time here as well.
Great weekend with time spent in nature, a little shopping in Nashville, and just relaxing at the cabin. Nice property! The winding road to the cabin was very scenic and lovely. Would definitely stay at this property again.
There were absolutely no complaints from any of the six of us other than we brought way too much food! Kitchen well equipped. We enjoyed the fire ring two nights. Great place. This was our second visit here and we plan to come back.
The house is very nice. I loved our mattress! Clean and comfy house. I wish there had been some baggies and reynolds wrap. We went in early Spring so the pollen was crazy. That being said, I think the deck could have been spruced up a bit, maybe some flowers. I would stay here again. It met all of our needs and then some!
My partner, 3 adult children, two small dogs and I enjoyed 3 nights (8/11-8/14) at this lovely property. I must say, the owners thought of EVERYTHING and that made our stay even nicer. The home has a gorgeous setting, much like being in a tree house. The property is beautiful, and the fenced area is perfect for dog romps. Inside, we had everything we needed, from toiletries to kitchen spices. The ping pong table provided lots of laughs (who knew we were so bad at the game?). The whole set up was perfect for extended family - together, but with “space”. We really enjoyed ourselves!
This place was amazing! We came down for War in the Woods and we couldn’t have been more happier. We had rented another place and it was so gross. The conditions were very poor and dirty. So we needed a place to stay the day we came into town and luckily found this house with availability and were able to book last min. Spoke to a lovely woman and asked to check in a day early. They were super accommodating. We were able to check in later that night. If you are in the area I highly recommend this home. The home was very clean and the setting was absolutely amazing. We are definitely getting this home twice a year when we come back for the race!
The cabin itself was clean, maintained, fully stocked kitchen (dishes, pots and pans, etc.) It was quiet aside from the birds singing. The walkway from the driveway to the deck was difficult for my husband to walk on. (It slopes down and is soft ground with mulch over it.) My husband has had a stroke and his balance is not good. They may want to consider leveling the walkway and bring the deck up to the driveway.
Also, the driveway is really loose gravel. We had motorcycles and my husbands boot slid on the gravel and he went down. So just beware and be careful.
We are grateful we were able to bring our 2 little dogs with us. They too had a nice time.
We sat out on the deck a lot and surprisingly there were no bugs. (Only at night around the porch lights.)
We do plan to rent this cabin again next year, if it is available for the dates we want.
Loved the home, location, amenities, and overall experience! Would highly recommend this home for family gatherings/stays. Plenty of activities for all ages.
The rental property was fantastic but had an extra hour+ of drive time to get the key. Probably wouldn't have booked this particular site if I realized it. I have typically had hide a key on other rentals.
The host was welcoming and very communicative. The home is beautiful, quiet, and very peaceful! We loved that the back of the home faced the woods. The pots/pans/skillets/knives were all in great shape and we had all the utensils we needed to cook our meals. We absolutely loved our stay and are already planning our next trip! Thank you for a wonderful, long weekend!
Very nice cabin in a beautiful setting. We never could get the TV on the main floor to work but the one in the basement was great. Be careful if you have problems with stairs as they are a bit steep and may be dangerous for some—keep some lights on at night if you sleep on the second floor and you’ll be fine.
