"Birch Run Lodge is like stepping back in time. It’s a quintessential Michigan lake experience. The main inn building, circa 1912, is beautiful. Its long porch faces Trout Lake with plenty of rocking chairs to sit and enjoy the view. The Inn’s interior features a beautiful bar, dining room, lots of vintage furnishings and an air of comfort. The Inn’s owner/proprietors are welcoming and present. We stayed in the motel portion of the Lodge, which is classic mid-century and decorated in that era. Beds and linens were clean and comfy. (Note: if you’re light sensitive while sleeping, bring a sleep mask. The drapes are not light blocking.) The motel rooms have a big window that look out on the beautiful lake. The Inn offers a Continental Breakfast to guests staying in both the motel and main inn. The property surrounding the inn and motel are beautiful, serene and wooded. (Be sure to bring bug spray for the abundant mosquitoes and potential for ticks.) If you’re looking for a unique, classic Upper Peninsula Michigan lodging experience, Birch Run Lodge is for you."

"Sent us to a room that was not cleaned, dirty towels, unclean sheets, and unmade bed. Pictures of hot tub and pool are not what they currently look like. Now look run down. Internet connection and TV channel selection was poor; TV volume is controlled and would not go high enough to hear the speakers over the air conditioning. Air conditioning smelled musty and unkempt. Room key was not programmed correctly for a 3-night stay. Outer door to parking lot was not locked. Anyone could enter without passkey. Staff seemed sarcastic and did not seem to be interested in accommodating us to have a pleasant stay. Staff was not trained on how to print a receipt for stay. Due to these issues we left early, and the property did not attempt to credit us for leaving early. I do not recommend this property."

"We were in room 20, beyond that room is 21 and 22, there was no parking, all the spots in the hotel parking lot were taken. We had to park on a different street behind the hotel. When we checked in there was no “obvious” hotel office and no sign saying “office”. After driving around the parking lot I found a lady that works there and I asked about checking in, she said what’s your name, gave it to her and she said, “ok, you’re checked in”. The next day a large group of Harley Bikers pulled in late sometime after supper, they also had a very hard time checking, they left their bikes running and of course had to keep revving their bikes up. I’m not against any biker groups and had it been easier for them to check in they wouldn’t have left there bikes running so long. It’s not a bad facility, just extremely amateurish how it’s run"

"Our family stayed for a long weekend. We had a great time. The house is roomy and very nicely furnished. The kitchen was a pleasant surprise - it was very well stocked with pots and pans, appliances and dishes. So, if you like to make your own meals, you will enjoy this kitchen away from home. Just as a heads up - the stairs and the beds are very squeaky, so if you are sensitive to that, you might have issues. Both bathrooms are on the first floor. And they don’t lock, neither do any of the rooms. Again, if that’s important for you, it’s something to consider. Other than that, the house is perfect for a big family or group of friends. A great bonus is that it is pet friendly."

"We had a wonderful stay. The space is clean, the kitchen has a lot of cooking supplies and the pans are amazing nonstick!! Perfect for those who want to cook at home rather than go out. The ceiling is low but tall enough for 6 foot men. The showers were a bit tough for them though. This wasn’t an issue whatsoever for us, but if you are VERY tall (6ft 10inches), you might be slouched. Back yard is spacious and fires were amazing under the stars. We would visit again!!"
