Trentham Holidays from NZ$269

We were really looking forward to our stay. I had spent a long time choosing to stay based on reviews so maybe had higher expectations than I should have. Unfortunately the uncourteous receptionist set the stay off on a sour note. She was curt and unwelcoming, and this continued when we had to ask her things at reception later. The bed was comfy but small, and the room was cramped to what we had expected from the photos. There were two towels for two people so washing hair meant you had to towel down with wet hair dripping onto you. The room on the third floor was hot and had a fan that mildly shifted air around, we had to open windows to sleep but then had road noise. The room was quite noisy from the corridor. For what we paid for the room it was quite basic. The bar shut earlier than advertised in the room info sheet. There was safe parking at extra cost but I wouldn't want to be in a larger car as it was a squeeze to get parked. Great central location and easy to get to from SH1. We did appreciate the lolly jar in the reception (still not enough of a sweetener to get over the receptionist). Checking out was easy and on that occasion there was a nice girl who was able to smile - it makes all the difference!

Customer service was great with clear check-in instructions and also was very accommodating in allowing an early check in 😊 Affordable and in the best central location with secure entry and exit into the building. The accommodation was a nice space with a balcony My only feedback is that: - check in email only arrived a few hours before check which made it difficult to plan ahead and find the best parking building or locate where the building was at all as there isn’t any signage. - it would have been good to know ahead that you have to carry all your luggage up 2 flights of stairs - there were only a couple of glasses and a 2-3 wine glasses which seemed strange - there was absolutely no air con but we were provided 2 standing fans which unfortunately didn’t do much.

Very nice historical building

The room itself was clean and fine but it is a rather dated facility. One of our cooking pots and a salad bowl had not been cleaned and something was very burnt on to it. The WiFi was also rather weak. Free parking and an extra hour on checkout was appreciated. The hotel is very walkable to everything as well.

Good location, clean and good room space.
