Welcome to Sandbar Shores on Big Platte Lake. This micro-resort is comprised of three cottages with direct beachfront access and enjoyment of Big Platte Lake. Big Platte Lake is nestled in the heart of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore and is shallow, warm and sandy.
The Roadhouse Cottage is steps away from the lake and offers lovely views. This two bedroom cottage is furnished with a twin/full bunk, a master bedroom consisting of a queen bed and a living room with a large sectional sofa. This cottage can accommodate five people. There is a fully functional kitchen and one bathroom.
Each cottage is outfitted with a/c, heat, WiFi, Roku televisions, gas grills, linens, towels, pillows, and personal fire pits. The sandy beach lakefront is a shared area between all of the cottages so we request that visitors are limited and courtesy be given to the other quests while enjoying the amenities.

We had a really nice stay at the cabin for five nights. The lake is nice for swimming, and the kids love playing with all of the water toys available for use. It was a great launching spot to visit the dunes and other area attractions.
Three adult men in the roadhouse cabin. We had all we needed and were close to great fishing spots. Would come back over and over again.
Families played on the beach during the day. We were able to sit out and enjoy the lake at night. We even caught sight of some unusual light movements in the nighttime sky! This place was perfect!
Roadhouse has a great location nesr shared beach & dock on Lake Platte. The cottage looks to be in the process of renovations(which we weren't aware of), the exterior was only partially sided with the remainder covered in house wrap. The front door didn't like staying shut unless it was locked. The window to the door had no vurtain/covering, so we had to hang a towel over it for privacy. The interior was definitely updated compared to pictures as second bedroom has bunk beds instead of the two singles.
We loved it! It was a clean, updated quaint cabin. Even better than we expected. If our son does the Ironman again in Frankfort we would love to stay again.
Wonderful week stay at the Roadhouse. The house was immaculate, the beds were comfy, and I greatly appreciated the plush towels! The location was great as we were close to Sleeping Bear, tubing on the river, local towns for shopping and Lake Michigan. My 9 year old boy's comments about our stay: "I really like the beach, kayaking and there were other kids to play with." The Roadhouse is a lovely place to stay. Perfect.
Our goal was to keep away from the crowd and have a more custom experience. In the current climate, having our own kitchenette, shower, living room area, dining area and of course bedroom meant that we could go in and out as we pleased. We had our own grill with propane, a fire pit, and the distance to the water was right down a sidewalk path. We enjoyed the sunset on the water, the owners were right there to help us when we got locked out, we had A/C and fans, fresh towels and linens, and it felt truly like being at grandma's cabin. The location was hands down one of the greatest benefits to the stay: we were just a 15 minute drive from Frankfort, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Lake Michigan National Lakeshore, and plenty of tubing, kayaking and canoeing stops. The Roadhouse gave us the opportunity to get away without feeling totally isolated, and we really loved the family that were on-site. All in all, this was truly a choose your own adventure spot, which is just what we wanted.
Property was clean and we had everything we needed. Could not access washer/ dryer and the owner was over within 5 mins to unlock door. Great stay beautiful lake views. Close to sleeping bear dunes
Amazing! We loved staying on Platte lake and at this property. The amenities were awesome. My kids (6/11) figured out how to kayak and found some new outdoor adventures. I enjoyed my coffee sitting by lake and even saw a bald eagle fly by a few mornings!! Sunsets, grilling, and campfires at night warmed my heart. Sleeping bear dunes, lake MI beach, and adorable towns are a short drive away. We did so many things but found we loved chilling at this property, swimming and fishing on Platte the most. The owner was so helpful and was quick to respond to any questions. We will be coming back!
We loved staying at the roadhouse and look forward to visiting this property again in the future. Even with three rentals on the property we felt like we had plenty of outdoor space and enjoyed the shared dock, kayaks and beach area. The property owners were helpful with anything we needed and we absolutely loved all of the extras they provide (indoor and outdoor games, beach toys, life jackets, laundry facilities, etc). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Platte Lake.
My family stayed for the week and loved every minute. The house was very clean upon our arrival. Loved that there were starter items at the house such as soap, paper towel, toilet paper, etc. The house is exactly as pictured on the website. The house is dated but adds charm. Each house on the property had plenty of yard space and individual fire pits. Water was warm and shallow. Beautiful views. Owner was quick to respond. Very close to a lot of activities. Definitely recommend checking out Sleeping Bear Dunes (bring a lot of water!!), Glen Haven Bay two miles from the Dunes, Cherry Bowl Drive-In, Crystal Lake and pyramid point. Easy day trips to Traverse city and Mackinac Island.
My family had a great stay in Honor! The location could not have been better...close to so many beaches and adorable towns! We found a different location every day to explore. And, when we needed a minute to relax, staying at the cabin and playing in the lake was equally fun for our kiddos. The property/lake front was shared, but each cabin had a spot to call their own, including our own fire pit. The cabin was small - which we knew going in - but it met every need for us. The owners were friendly and helpful. As a bonus, the basement in the main house had laundry and beach toys/chairs/etc. available to us. I wouldn't hesitate to return, but my growing family may need to rent the big house :)
The cottage was as described-a cozy get-away on Platte Lake, perfect for a couple. The kitchen was well-equipped, with enough pots and pans for meal prep. The location was perfect, with a grocery store in Honor only a few miles away, and Lake Michigan less that 10 minutes drive away. The owner was responsive to inquiries, and the whole experience is 5-star rated.
We had a great stay at the road house. Lake access and small sandy beach front on property. The water stays very shallow for awhile which was great for our toddler. There were kayaks on the property to use as well as firewood for our camp fire. The basement of the main house has laundry for guests as well as sand toys, lawn toys, and board games. The location was great. You are a short drive to the town on Empire to go see some huge dunes. Thanks for the great stay!
This is exactly what we were looking for! The cabin worked great and we were so happy to be so close to the water. Amazing time at the location as well as easy accessibility to our other destinations like Sleeping Bear.
The property is owned by a family so the operations are catered towards the guest. Check in/out is seemless as it mostly works through texting. And anything requested is provided.
The property itself is pretty amazing hence the title, it's dated but that's what gives it is charm. The pictures in on the site are identical to what you get. We had an opportunity to look over the whole property and I would highly suggest if you have 15-20 family members, rent the entire property; beach house, roadhouse, bighouse.
Second greatest thing about the cabin is the location, it's 25 min north of Frankfort and 25 minutes south of Glen arbor. The dunes climb and Peirce stocking is about 15-20 north of the property. Lastly the Platt river connects to the lakefront of the property for kayak, canoe, and tube rides. The mouth of the Platt opens into lake Michigan where there's a natural lazy river and shallow beach for littles to play(our kids are 7-2).
