What to do in Malmö Municipality

The Oresund Bridge connects Malmo to Denmark and remains the largest road and rail bridge in Europe. The bridge opened in 2000 as a non-stop link over the Oresund Strait. Lilla Torg is a popular spot for locals and visitors to relax in a bar or restaurant terrace, listen to some live music and check out design and architecture exhibitions. This little square is the heart of Malmo’s nightlife and a central meeting point.

Stortorget is the historical centre of the Old Town and the oldest square in the city. It has some of Malmo’s most significant buildings and hosts many cultural events. The square is dotted with the outdoor dining terraces of numerous cafés and restaurants. The square dates back to 1536, when it was built by former major Jorgen Kock. At the time, it was among the largest city squares in Northern Europe.

Folkets Park is a 2.4-hectare (6-acre) recreational area with rolling, green lawns and an open-air concert stage for live music. This family-friendly park has a wading pool, fairground rides and animal enclosures.

Towering above the parks and Malmö’s green waterfront precinct is the HSB Turning Torso, one of Europe’s most eye-catching buildings. Inspired by a white marble sculpture called Twisting Torso, this 623-foot (190-meter) building has remarkable architecture, featuring a 90-degree twist.

Gustav Adolf Square (Gustav Adolfs Torg) features 19th- and 20th-century architecture, a fair-trade Christmas market and one of the biggest summer festivals in Malmo. The square is named after King Gustav II Adolf and opened in 1804. This square represented the heart of the new district when the king tore down the old city walls.
