"Staff were great. Food was excellent. Rooms were massive and luxurious (we stayed in a villa). Game drivers were really knowledgeable and saw a decent amount of wildlife over the course of 2 game drives. We saw impala (obviously), eland, warthog, giraffe, rhino (and a baby rhino), buffalo, lion and a variety of birds and reptiles."

"I booked for my daughter and personally did not go to the Lodge. This is their comments:
Very pleasant stay! We went for a quick weekend away from the hassle and bustle of the city to get the experience of being away in the bush. Everything was better than expected, except the operation of the gas geyser which made it difficult to have a descent shower"

"It was interesting. The very small hotel was built around a small airport. The biggest issue was the AC leaks water and had temperature restrictions."

The hotel complex is a welcome safe refuge from the surrounding neighbourhood. Situated next to the dam and behind two sets of manned security gates, one can peacefully stroll among the attractive gardens. On the two occasions of load shedding, the hotel backup generators kicked in within 15 seconds. Our room (No 2) was a lovely self contained cottage within easy walking distance of the main facilities. The restaurant serves a delicious buffet breakfast.

What is the best area to stay in Temba?
While Temba itself is a more rural area, for visitors looking for convenient access to local attractions and a comfortable stay, the best area is generally along the R101 corridor, particularly closer to the more developed sections that lead towards Hammanskraal.
This stretch of the R101 offers a balance between accessibility and local amenities. You'll find guesthouses and lodges dotted along this main road, providing a good base for exploring the wider region. It's a practical choice for those who appreciate easy navigation and proximity to transport links.
For couples seeking a quiet retreat with a touch of local flavour, staying in one of the guesthouses a little off the R101, but still within easy reach, can be ideal.
When is the best time to go to Temba?
The best time to visit Temba, Gauteng, South Africa, is during the dry winter months, from May to September.
This period offers pleasant, sunny days with mild temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C. There's very little rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the region comfortably. The clear skies also make for excellent wildlife viewing in nearby reserves, as the vegetation is less dense and animals gather more frequently around water sources.
For those planning to combine their trip with a safari, the dry winter season is particularly good. The lower humidity and cooler temperatures make day-long excursions more enjoyable, and the reduced risk of rain means fewer disruptions to your plans. It's a great time for couples seeking a comfortable and focused wildlife experience.
The shoulder months of April and October can also be good, offering slightly warmer temperatures and fewer crowds, though there's a slightly higher chance of rain.
