Where do I start with this accommodation. Possibly the worst place I have ever stayed!! On arrival just after 12noon i went to reception and the dirty glass door was locked. The ripped paper sign announced that the reception was open 9.30am - 7pm. We rang the bell and about 5 minutes later 2 children in their pajamas answered the door. We asked to speak to their Dad. They ran and got their Mum who didn't appear to know what she was doing. She rang a person who sounded as if he were male. she asked me to pay and I informed her that I had already paid. She spoke in Indian the whole time she was on the phone. It says on their Expedia page that English is the spoken language. She gave me a key to the room and told me how to get there, She DID NOT give me a wifi password, parking instructions or any other information. On entering the room we found the furniture and furnishings to be all very dated . There were broken light bulbs, dirty stains on the wall, stained furniture, empty tissue box, no soap dish, mouldy ceiling, a very noisy heater, and not sure in the kitchen as I refused to use it. The only good thing for me were the clean sheets on our beds and the fluffy towels. Clearly not laundered in-house. The outside grounds were overgrown, the trampoline was ripped and broken, and the outdoor furniture in disrepair. I would not recommend that you stay here EVER!!

A little boy was at the reception when we arrived. He managed to find our room key by phoning an appropriate adult (assuming his dad). But couldn't help us much. My husband went back to the reception to ask WiFi password. Again the same thing the boy phoned the adult (owner/manager/dad) and took about 15mins to find out the password. However the manager popped in our unit later on and apologized.

The room was clean, but not the floor. A firm bed ,very good sheets, but unpleasant cooking odours, window catches broken, light bulbs missing and an unwashed marked bath towel and no bath mat. Would not stay again.

The place is tired and old. It is badly in need of a revamp. Holes in walls and roof, mold around windows, threadbare towels and unfortunately like many NZ motels it now has long term residents. PLUS if you book with Wotif they won’t receive your booking as they no longer use this system! We were damn lucky they weren’t already full. My advice, look elsewhere!

Staff were very helpful and responsive to queries and concerns. Bathroom ceiling had terrible mould and there was a window blind on the floor of the bathroom (obviously had fallen down at some point and been left there). Several windows didn't open. There wasn't enough cutlery, plates or cups for the number of guests. Location was great but it feels as though it's time for a deep clean and paint job, as well as fixing up of general maintenance issues.

Very friendly manager and staff, quiet and spacious and great location not far from the lake with all the facilities you need. Loved the inexpensive upgrade. Could easily have stayed longer - alas we had to move on.

Motel had all the amenities in the room that you would expect. I liked that you got a proper kitchen sink which you don’t seem to always get these days. The beds were really comfortable with lovely crisp white bedding. I was in unit one so lakeside direction and very quiet with a nice sunny spot outside with the table and chairs and sun umbrella. No noise from other units. Perfect spot to stay to watch the Ironman runners as this was on the course. Great fish and chip shop across the road too.

Quaint motels with a fabulous holiday vibe. Plenty of outside picnic seating and BBQ. Very comfortable super king bed, good quality linen and although old our unit was immaculate, will stay again. Brilliant value for money and Very nice host.

No good on a hot day as the unit was hotter than the outside sun due to no ceiling insulation. this is the case for all rooms. Room was super hot until about 3am when the roof finally lost its heat, almost impossible to sleep. I assume its super cold in the winter? Rainbow Point Motel - a solid stay.
Our stay went really well. Manager was super friendly at check in. Made sure we knew where to go and showed us our room. Unit was tidy and clean, which was all we needed. Comfy beds and good bedding.

A place that goes above and beyond.
Having travelled extensively this is probably the best motel I have stayed in. Nothing was to much trouble and the owner had everything that you need and more ! This included a travel adapter and when I lost my brand new UE Boom speaker helping me collect it when he was on a family trip to Wellington - he just went above and beyond. Please stay here - definitely worth it!
