"The rooms were clean and the hotel was close to many great restaurants and bars."

"Negative remarks: 1. No coffee maker in the room and no complementary coffee in the lobby. This combination doesn't make for a good impression. 2. Room was tired looking. Bathroom was poorly designed (lean over the sink and hit your head on a shelf) 3. Lobby decor is more suited to a hospital waiting room than to the lobby of a major NY hotel 4. With the exception of the housekeeping staff (which was very pleasant) the staff members we encountered seemed as though they wished they were somewhere else. Positive Remark: Great location."

Hotel St. James

"I travel for my work. After reading the reviews, I decided to give Hotel St. James a try. The price was right and the location was optimal for the job. The historic property is quite clean, due to an attentive staff. The rooms themselves left a lot to be desired. The first room I was in was bare bones with wood blinds that covered a window unit A/C. There was no table, mini fridge or microwave. The water in the shower was long to turn hot, fussy to adjust, then didn't stay hot. Lastly, the mattress was one of the worst I have ever slept on. I even asked housekeeping flip it over but it didn't help. The bed frame wasn't attached to anything so whenever you touched it, it moved all over the floor. I am not a fussy traveler, but not getting a good night's sleep is the worst. The second room was only minimally better. I took it over after another guest chose not to stay at all. I needed to extend a day but there was nothing else available. The mattress was minimally better, but the pillows were terrible and worn. That shower was the same, water temperature finicky, and unless the shower head was adjusted properly, water sprayed out of the connection with nothing coming out of the shower. After 10 days, I was truly happy to check out and head home. Too bad, because again, the location was perfect."

Empire Hotel

"The Empire has a stellar location near Columbus Circle and the Lincoln Center for ballet, opera and jazz at the Lincoln Center and the staff id very good and friendly. However it needs a serious infusion of cash to do some very deferred maintenance. The room we were in which was supposedly deluxe had frayed carpets, torn wallpaper and sub par bathroom facilities. I am never a proponent of corporations taking over mom and pop or private businesses but this hotel needs to be saved by a Marriott or Hilton and get a complete overhaul. It's a shame to let a location like this not live to it's full potential."

"I got in Town at 1am they cancelled my reservation and said they gave my room away so I couldn’t rebook. All hotels in the area were booked. A week later I get charged $600 for cancellation. They were the ones that cancelled it. Now it’s impossible to contact them. Total scam."
