"We enjoyed being able to watch the river as we bathed in the open air bath. Plenty of amenities provided, staff was super friendly and helpful, and room was lovely and spacious. Japanese breakfast was huge and delicious and it was wonderful to try some regional specialities."

If looking for authentic Japanese experience (for the working and middle class Japanese) this is a very good experience. Dinner and breakfast buffet was really good. However there's little to do around the lake, unlike Yamashiro ir Yamanaka onsen area.

"The people is extremely warm and welcoming, including reception and the lady serving us from check in to dining. The young lady can speak english, we have a great time there. We use the public onsen before dinner so there are not much people. The private onsen in the room also great, but will be a bit small if two people bath together. Will definitely recommend this place to people who want to experience Japanese traditional onsen culture and dining. "
"Onsen is located on a river and surrounded by nature. Very picturesque. The food served was excellent, traditional cuisine, lots of variety, and plentiful. I appreciated the free shuttle service from the train station to the onsen, this needs to be arranged beforehand through the expedia booking platform. The room was clean. "This ryokan is very dated and in dire need of a refresh. The facilities are not what you would expect from a top end facility in a spa town. The public bath (men’s) felt decades old with soap/salt staining and old fittings. The private baths were a good facility/idea.
Most corridors apart from the main lobby area had an unpleasant smell (musty, mouldy). Our room also faintly had this whiff.
The staff are great - polite and efficient. Breakfast was good.
The free snacks, sale, ice cream buffets were a good idea but don’t expect them to be top quality.
The shuttle was handy. And the ryokan is well situated, a short walk away from charming Yamanaka town.
Unfortunately I could not recommend this as a place until it has had a make-over. "

And they did me a favor, I wasn’t able to use the purple bimi ticket, so they made a dinner option just for me, and I looked at the menu- the dinner was worth more than the cost of the ticket. They helped me out beyond what they needed to do, I highly recommend this hotel."
"Lovely getaway for an authentic Japanese Onsen bathing experience. The suite room was gorgeous and came with a private bath which was very worth it for me ! Many delicious local restaurant options nearby too. Staff knew enough English to get us settled. Highly recommend for 1-2 nights as part of your trip. "
