The I-5 corridor in northern California can be pretty bleak in the summer months, but you can still find an oasis here and there. This one is west of Redding, maybe about a half-hour off the Interstate. Drive west on highway 299, past Whiskytown Lake and look for a sign for Crystal Creek. This multi-tiered waterfall surrounded in green is just the thing! TRAVEL TIP: Have a long, overnight flight coming up? Office staff is very welcoming, room was very clean. The outside landscaping is beautiful to walk through, even in the rainy weather. We would like to visit again when the sun is shining to do more extensive walks around the grounds and to the river.
