Seopjikoji’s scenic route offers an ideal combination of vast ocean and beautiful countryside.

The incredible views from the coastal path at Seopjikoji are the reason this is one of the best-loved sightseeing attractions on the island. You can explore here all year round, taking in the stunning rock formations, the steep cliffs that fall away to the vast ocean, and the characteristic narrowness that gives the coastal path its name of 'the narrow cape’.

The coastal path is an easy walk, which makes it suitable for all ages and physical abilities, and the 360-degree stunning views are likely to stay with you long after you have left this part of the world. There is a car park here, where most people start their journey, and a winding stone path takes you up above Sinyang Seopjikoji beach. Once you're here, you can enjoy the view of the beach on one side and verdant green fields on the other, with the imposing backdrop of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak.

Towards the end of the path is a white lighthouse, and this is the spot from which the views are at their most spectacular – all you have to do is climb the staircase to the top to see them. When the tide is out, the beach here is like a graveyard of rock formations that are fascinating to explore. At one end is the Seondolbawi, a rock formation which legend says is a prince who turned to stone after his bride-to-be failed to appear at his wedding.

The beauty of the area has led to it being used as the setting for a number of Korean films, such as A Thousand Day Nights and The Legend of Gingko. Yet this isn't only a great place for celluloid adventures – it's ideal for real life once-in-a-lifetime experiences too.

Seopjikoji is free to visit and is open throughout the year. The best way of getting here is to drive from Jeju City, which takes around an hour and a half.
