Belltown Travel Guide

Tourist Guide
Belltown
Seattle’s ultra-modern side is evident in this neighborhood, where an active arts and partying scene thrives amid its shining skyscrapers.

Belltown is a bustling, frenetic district with plenty going on. During the day, its streets throng with workers heading to the offices that line its avenues. At night, the roads are equally busy with crowds on their way to its jazz bars, trendy pubs and party venues. Stroll around its streets, sip a cold brew in a cool café and explore its many art galleries.

The area where Belltown is today used to be too steep for development, so city planners changed its elevation. The neighborhood began to flourish in the 1970s when skyscrapers went up and young professionals moved in.

Enjoy the artistic side of Seattle, starting in the Olympic Sculpture Park. This stunning open-air gallery is set on the scenic quayside and is free to enter throughout the year. Get creative at the Seattle Glassblowing Studio, which runs interactive workshops for all ages.

Head down tree-lined 1st Avenue, the commercial hub of Belltown, to find a diverse array of shops and bars. Embark on a culinary tour of the world, trying dishes from Japan, Italy and Mexico, as well as other global dining options.

Roam the neighborhood and pass educational establishments like Antioch University and the City University of Seattle. The district also houses gleaming high-rises that host big businesses such as Amazon.

At night, choose between a variety of bars and music venues. Begin with a drink at a Prohibition-style speakeasy then move on to a traditional bar. Watch a film at the vintage Cinerama, recognizable by the bright murals on its façade.

Belltown is one of Seattle’s most central neighborhoods. Buses travel through it regularly and streetcars move up Westlake Avenue. Stay here and you’ll be perfectly placed to reach Seattle’s headline attractions such as the Space Needle and Pike Place Market, which are found directly outside its limits.

Belltown is small enough that exploring all of its major sights on foot is remarkably easy. Wander around and discover the neighborhood’s many charms at your own pace.
