"I had a wonderful stay at Powter Howe, a real treat. The room and bathroom were immaculately cleaned and well kept and the host is a gem who cooks the best breakfast which includes lovely free range eggs from her own hens. Waking up in the morning to the view over a beautiful garden beyond the lake to Skiddaw was an extra treat as each morning there was a new ever changing Lake District vista. I'll definitely be back! "Hillsdale was a joy and delight, in an excellent location with great off Road parking. The BnB was spotlessly clean, rooms were homely and cosy all topped off with a great breakfast! Steve and Caz were the best hosts and couldn’t do enough for you. Highly recommend!"

"We were only advised of the ongoing construction project after paying for the booking. Checking in was very poor and we had a long wait for the room to be ready. We were then advised the day after checking in that the room would only be made up during our stay upon request each day. As the room had virtually no facilities in terms of water, coffee, tea etc., the need to get the room made up was important. The breakfast room coffee machine was out of action for several days so were reduced to luke warm coffee from an urn, likely made a long time prior to the breakfast room opening.
If we had booked a basic room we might have understood some of the issues but we had booked a premier room that we were advised by several staff was one of the best rooms in the hotel and had previously been used by Prince Charles!
When checking out we were then advised of a daily guest parking fee for using the guest only parking!
The hotel is very tired and in desperate need of the refurbishment project underway. Understandable but to advise guests of this after they have paid for the booking is simply not good practice.
Wait until the refurbishment project is complete before making a booking."
"Would definitely recommend, and aim to stay again next year.
Lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings - far enough away from the busy Lake District hotspots to make it a peaceful stay, yet close enough to everywhere you might want to visit!
Beautiful garden and pond, with friendly ducks.
Clean throughout with spacious room and bathroom, and a comfortable bed.
Great breakfasts with lots of choice.
Only little niggle - it would be an added bonus to be able to have a cappuccino or latte choice at breakfast :)"
"A lovely traditional style home in a fantastic location. Comfortable bed, excellent breakfast and a nice spa. A very good breakfast included. Free parking
Location and view are fantastic, with a couple of mins walk to the Windermere cruises dock, with easy access to Bowness and Ambleside. There are several nice walks in the local area.
The rooms are a little dated/traditional in style, and the bathrooms could use a little refurbishment but the room was very comfy and well ventilated. No issues with that as long as you aren’t expecting a brand new modern style of room decor.
Fantastic view of the lake which was a joy to wake up to.
Service in the restaurants was very good and the staff were helpful.
Overall a very good stay and I would happily stay there again."
"Lovely clean kings size room with own patio to sit and enjoy the sun. There’s about 4 different areas to park at . Staff very helpful and with a smile when serving also a bar and lounge to sit, we didn’t use it but it’s there"
