Cosy two bedroom lodge on the edge of Raheen Woods
Located off a quiet country road in County Clare, just a 5 minute drive from the very pretty village of Tuamgraney, is Raheen Wood Lodge. It is a quiet, cosy stone lodge accessed by a private avenue. This two-bedroom property is attached to the larger main house onsite but it has an entirely private entrance door and garden area surrounded by beautiful stone walls and a laurel hedge so it feels very separate. You are also more than welcome to use the main garden during your stay, including the triple swing set and slide (we would ask that adults supervise young children please). This is a peaceful hidden place completely surrounded by trees, nature and wildlife.
There are two bedrooms sleeping up to four people. Each has a double bed, and they share the bathroom with a shower (there is no bath). The kitchen although small, is well equipped and fully set up for self-catering guests with oven, hob, dishwasher and washing machine (please note there is no dryer in the property).
THE LOCATION
A short drive of just 5 minutes will bring you to the local village of Tuamgreaney which has a great pub serving very good food – Nuala’s and McKiernan’s Woollen Mills where you can browse and get a guided tour. A little further away is the village of Scarriff with more places to eat and drink, a fruit & vegetable shop, butcher shop, health food shop, a very well stocked modern library, supermarket, off-licence and gift shop. A 15-minute drive then will bring you to the busy town of Killaloe with the larger supermarkets.
ACTIVITIES
For water sports and to enjoy the lake activities you have the choice of going either to Killaloe with lots of activities including paddle boarding, kayaking, rock climbing and sailing (less than a 10 minute drive from the property). There is also an inflatable water park on the lake which is great fun for families.
Or, if you drive in the opposite direction, you can enjoy a more laid-back day out at Mountshannon. It is a family friendly spot perfect for picnics. Not far from its shore is Holy Island with its well-known tower silhouette. Many centuries ago, it was home to a thriving monastery and the remains are still there to be seen today. You can take a guided boat tour out to the island or a kayaking tour if you’d prefer.
There are some great hiking spots including Moylussa which is the highest point in Co.Clare. The views are overlooking the lake and are breath-taking. 2 mile gate is a very popular spot for swimming and having bbq’s or picnics. It has a water park during the summer months.
We would love to help you make your visit unique and to give you ideas of other not so well-known gems in the area to visit.
