About this property

The Upper Olmstead - 1800s Victorian Near Forsyth

  • Summary:

Welcome to The Upper Olmstead, a light-filled Victorian retreat near Forsyth Park where historic Savannah character meets polished modern design. Settle into a spacious king bedroom, relax in the private library, cook in the full kitchen, or enjoy a drink on your furnished upper porch. Original hardwood floors, tall windows and beautiful architectural details give this thoughtfully updated home its unmistakable Savannah charm. Sleeps 3.

    The Space:

Welcome upstairs to The Upper Olmstead, a beautifully restored one-bedroom residence that pairs the character of an 1800s Savannah Victorian with bright, comfortable modern living.

This isn't your typical one-bedroom apartment. The home is surprisingly spacious, with soaring rooms, tall windows, original hardwood floors and multiple living areas that give you plenty of room to spread out.

The primary bedroom is a standout. A king bed anchors the oversized, sun-filled room, surrounded by tall windows, warm original floors and a decorative historic fireplace. Soft neutral furnishings keep the space calm and inviting, making it an ideal place to recharge after a day exploring Savannah.

Beyond the main living areas, you'll find one of our favorite features of The Upper Olmstead: a dedicated library and den. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves create a handsome backdrop for reading, relaxing or getting a little work done. A large desk provides a true dedicated workspace, while the sofa converts into a small pullout bed for one additional guest.

The renovated kitchen is open, bright and fully equipped for your stay. White cabinetry, stone countertops, stainless steel appliances and a large island with seating make it equally suited for a quick breakfast before heading out or a relaxed dinner at home.

The adjoining living room is filled with natural light and offers comfortable seating around the TV and original decorative fireplace. Historic details remain throughout the residence, but the clean design and thoughtful furnishings give the home a fresh, understated feel.

And then there's the private upper porch.

Step outside with your morning coffee or settle in with a glass of wine at the end of the day. The spacious furnished porch includes an outdoor dining table and plenty of room to enjoy Savannah's warmer weather. It's a true extension of the home rather than simply a small balcony.

The full bathroom has also been completely updated, with a large glass-enclosed walk-in shower, generous vanity and classic black-and-white tile. A stacked washer and dryer is conveniently located in the bathroom for guest use.

Sleeping arrangements: The primary bedroom features one king bed. The library/den includes a small pullout sleeper suitable for one additional guest. The home accommodates a maximum of 3 guests.

    Guest Access:

Guests have private access to the entire upstairs residence, including the king bedroom, living room, full kitchen, library/den, full bathroom, in-unit laundry and furnished upper porch.

The Upper Olmstead is the upstairs residence of a duplex. The downstairs residence is a separate vacation rental with its own private entrance and living spaces. There is a shared entry from the main door, it's an open vestibule where you will find your private entry to upstairs.

Please note that this is a second-floor residence and stairs are required to access the home.

    The Neighborhood:

The Upper Olmstead places you near Forsyth Park and within easy reach of the beauty, history and energy that make Savannah such a special city to explore.

Start the morning with a walk beneath the live oaks, grab coffee nearby, wander through Forsyth Park, and continue north toward Savannah's famous squares and Historic District. From neighborhood restaurants and cafés to boutiques, museums and historic architecture, you'll find plenty to discover without sacrificing the quieter, residential feel of the neighborhood.

The location gives you the best of both worlds: convenient access to Savannah's most popular destinations with a comfortable home to retreat to when you're ready to slow down.

And after a full day in the city, there's something especially nice about heading upstairs, opening the door to the porch and enjoying a quieter side of Savannah.

    Getting Around:

Savannah is made for exploring, particularly on foot. Forsyth Park and the surrounding Historic District are easily accessible from The Upper Olmstead, and walking is one of the best ways to experience the city's architecture, squares, restaurants and tree-lined streets.

Uber and Lyft are readily available for longer trips or evenings when you'd rather leave the walking for another day.

Once you reach the heart of the Historic District, Savannah's parks, squares, restaurants, shops and attractions are concentrated within a relatively compact area, making it easy to spend hours exploring without getting back in the car.

    Other Things to Note:

The Upper Olmstead is located on the second floor of a historic duplex, and stairs are required to reach the residence. The downstairs unit is a separate vacation rental and may be occupied during your stay, but each residence has its own private entrance and private living spaces.

The home accommodates a maximum of 3 guests with one king bed in the primary bedroom and a smaller pullout sleeper in the library/den intended for one guest.

The fireplaces are beautiful historic features of the home but are decorative only and not available for guest use.

Guests also have the convenience of a full kitchen, dedicated workspace, in-unit washer and dryer, and private furnished upper porch.
