A Historic Legacy Abercorn and York was built in 1853 by Captain Henry James Dickerson, a prominent Savannah figure. Born in Maryland in 1814, Dickerson came to Savannah at 19, beginning his career as a sailor before owning ships and pioneering large-scale stevedoring operations in the region. His contributions to Savannah’s maritime and economic development were significant, leaving a lasting legacy before his passing in 1883.
What is Stevedoring? Stevedoring involves loading and unloading cargo from ships, a vital part of the shipping and logistics industry. Captain Dickerson played a key role in modernizing these operations during his time, helping to expand the bustling Port of Savannah.

This apartment was great. The location was convenient to all the sites we wanted to see. It was very spacious. The apartment was clean and well stocked with linens and dishes. We will definitely come back.
The location alone is enough to give this property 5 stars but this well updated apartment gives groups of 3-4 the perfect home base to relax, sleep soundly and get back to the action as soon as they want. The location is walking distance to both the river and city market; and only a short cab ride (or longer walk) to Forsyth park. If travelling with a small group I would highly reccomend this property.
This was the perfect space for a girls’ weekend - we could walk to cute shops and restauarants, SCAD, all the historic sites and the Plant District. The space is beautiful and comfortable. there was some foot traffic in the park at night but nothing loud enough to wake us up. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit in Savannah!
Nice location, large and spacious were a plus. It could have been a little cleaner, the mattress in the master needs replaced and the back bedroomhas no air so it gets rather hot although they provide enough fans. All in all no huge issues ccomplaintscomplaintsminothinds.
We loved all aspects of our stay. Such a beautifully maintained home. Would love to return someday. Our children enjoyed the pool every day (we packed inflatables)Everything we needed to prepare a meal was provided plus a few bonuses including beach towels. We headed to the local Target for some essentials once we arrived. Wonderful home !! Thanks for sharing a bit of lovely Savannah with us
The location was wonderful. You can literally walk to so many hotspots. You can be at the river within a 5 to 10 min walk. The unit overlooks Oglethorpe Square. The apartment was cozy and had the amenities we needed. Just know this unit does not have its own parking spot. You have two options, which are not bad. If a spot opens up on the street by the unit, you can use the VPP or pay the meter. The other option is to park at a public parking garage. There is a garage diagonal across from the unit and Oglethorpe Square less than a 5 min walk. Will definitely consider staying at again when we return to Savannah!
Gorgeous house and the perfect neighborhood. Right on a square and near everything you need without feeling busy. Comfortable beds and clean, bright bathroom and kitchen.
We had a great time and enjoyed staying at this property. Great location and we loved looking out onto Oglethrope square. We had our family of five stay and it worked out well.
The pictures do not give this location any justice! I rented for the weekend for me and family for a wedding and it was super convenient to all the local bars and tourist attractions! Very satisfied with our stay!
