The best area to stay in Santa Margherita is along the Lungomare, the town's promenade, which stretches along the waterfront.

This area is the heart of Santa Margherita, offering direct access to the sea and the town's main attractions. The Lungomare is lined with palm trees, public gardens, and a variety of hotels, shops, and restaurants, making it very convenient for exploring on foot. You'll find the marina at one end and the public beach areas at the other.

Couples often find this area ideal for a romantic and relaxing holiday. The hotels here frequently offer sea views, and it's superb for evening strolls along the water or enjoying a meal at a waterside restaurant. Its central location makes it easy to visit the nearby Villa Durazzo or take a boat trip to Portofino.

For families, staying near the public gardens and beaches along the Lungomare is a great option. The flat promenade provides an easy walk for pushchairs, and the proximity to the beach means less travel time for children wanting to play in the sand or swim.

For most travellers, the best time to visit Santa Margherita is during late spring (May to early June) or early autumn (September to early October).

During these periods, the weather is pleasantly warm and sunny, superb for exploring the town and enjoying the coastline without the intense heat and larger crowds of mid-summer. You'll find most shops, restaurants, and attractions are fully operational, offering a complete experience.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will appreciate the quieter atmosphere of these shoulder seasons. You can enjoy strolls along the promenade, al fresco dining, and boat trips to nearby Portofino or Cinque Terre without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by crowds.
